Publisher's Description

This is the latest virus definitions for avast! 4 Home anti-virus program.

iAVS is a fast, small, incremental and fully automated update via the Internet. Updates are released at least twice a week. No reinstallation of the program is needed for virus database updates!

If you are connected to the Internet, updates are downloaded and installed automatically without any need for user action. The presence of a new version on our servers is checked when the Internet connection is established, and every four hours afterwards. Please download the following file only if you really need it (e.g. if your computer does not have any Internet connection).

FreewareFiles tested avast! Virus Definitions 5.x VPS on 2012-05-18 using leading antivirus scanners and found it 100% Clean. It does not contain any form of malware, spyware, viruses, trojans, etc. We will re-test each updated version and remove the award as well as the program if found infected.

"Never found anything."

Pros:  None that I can think of.

Cons:  I have never found anything over the last 2 years trying several versions of Avast Free when I knew my computer was infected with viruses and spyware.

Other Thoughts:  In my opinion this is not the best of the free antivirus software's. In my opinion Comodo Internet Security with firewall/virus/spyware protection and sandbox is the best if you are going to use free protection software for your computer. 1 virus is all it takes to destroy your system and Avast missed several of them on my computer, lucky for me Comodo cleaned up the mess before it was too late.
