Free Windows Admin Tools is a useful tool for Windows administrators. It helps the administrators to optimize their daily operations. The desktop management software includes many tools and this review will only pick a few examples.

Using Free Windows Admin Tools

We launched the program from the desktop shortcut created during installation. The graphical user interface featured four tabs on the upper part for accessing different program features on the same window. We clicked the "Settings" tab and entered our domain credentials so that we could fetch a list of managed computers. A pop-up window appeared that let us choose whether to enter domain or workgroup details.

We then selected the computers that we wanted the desktop management software to manage. We selected the "Managed Computers" tab and clicked on "Add." Once we had added the computers that we wanted to manage, we could perform the following operations.

The "Remote Task Management Tool" let us view the processes that were currently running on a remote computer. The details that we saw included process ID, session ID, memory usage and priority among others. We could change the parameters that we wanted to view and terminate some processes.

The program allowed us to simultaneously boot multiple computers in remote locations. We specified the IP and MAC addresses as well as the Subnet Masks of the computers that we wanted to wake up. In addition, we could shut down or restart computers in the specified domain. The software let us move computers between domains or from a domain to a workgroup and vice versa. We could then restart the transferred computers after the operations.

We could also issue commands to a remote computer by launching its command prompt interface. We could select the required computer by specifying the Domain Controller or specifying the computer manually.

The software gave us the opportunity to perform various tasks using the following tools:

  • Remote Device Manager
  • System Inventory
  • Software Inventory
  • Laptop Battery Power Monitor
  • Network Share Browser
  • Local Users/Groups
  • Hard Disc Space Monitor
  • GPO Update

Conclusion

Free Windows Admin Tools is a collection of various tools for Windows administrators. The desktop management software allows users to manage selected computers in a specified domain or workgroup. You need to install the software with elevated privileges.
