GoalBit is a peer to peer distribution system, capable of distributing high-bandwidth live-content to all network peers preserving its quality.
This project follows a bittorrent-like approach where the stream is decomposed into several flows sent by different peers to each client.
In order to measure the peers perceived quality, it is used the recently proposed PSQA (Pseudo-Subjective Quality Assessment) technology.
Features:
- GoalBit is a software project, which produces free software for video streaming, released under the GNU General Public License.
- GoalBit runs on GNU/Linux, Solaris, and Microsoft Windows.
- BitTorrent streaming (based on the BitTorrent protocol).
- Supported input media: File, Video acquisition (DV, webcam), HTTP/MMS/FTP, UDP/RTP Unicast/Multicast, TCP/RTP Unicast, DVD, VCD, SVCD, etc.
- Various audio and video formats supported (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, WMV, mp3, ogg, wma).
- Full video delivery network monitoring suite included (the perceived quality at the client side is measured in real time and automatically)
What's New in version 0.6.1:
- Bug fix: Trackerless problem in Windows.
- Improvements in Kad protocol.
Note: Kad protocol of Goalbit 0.6.0 is deprecated, it won't work with Goalbit 0.6.1 clients.
- Bug fix: Problem in Theora codec.
We solved a problem in the theora packetizer and we add it as our default profile (Theora/Vorbis over OGG) for broadcasting.
- Goalbit protocol registry in Windows!.
Now, when you install Goalbit in your Windows PC, the "goalbit://" protocol is registrated in the OS, so you can access to the streamings just by clicking on a goalbit:// web link!
- Improvements in "Reset Goalbit player preferences and cache files" option.
Now, when using this option, we also delete the application data cache (peer to peer cache, channels' logos, etc.)
- Bug fix: General problems in the GUI.
- Periodically updates to the Kad .met file.
Now Goalbit saves periodically in your .met file, the information about the Kad peers that you are talking with.
