Halite is yet another open-source BitTorrent client and is based on the excellent libtorrent library from Rasterbar Software. What makes Halite stand out is its remote control interface that allows its users to easily monitor and control the application from a mobile phone.

Features:

  • Multiple downloads.
  • Displays more detailed information for the selected torrent.
  • Connection limits both global and per-torrent.
  • Transfer rate limits again global and per-torrent.
  • Minimize to tray with transfer rate summary.
  • Association with ".torrent" files.
  • Option to limit the number of instances to one.
  • Estimated time remaining indicator.
  • Full Unicode support through UTF-8 and native Windows wide-char strings.
  • Login support where tracker requires it.
  • Ability to edit trackers specified in the torrent.

"Light, proper use of UL slots and better throttling evasion."

I hop from 1 Bittorrent client to another for the past 3 years and had stuck to Deluge or Vuze. Reason? Because I happen to live and use a monopolistic ISP which deploys some very, very stringent "bandwidth management" tactics. So far the 2 above-mentioned clients were good enough to get pass that but it seems like not for long. Halite surpasses both Deluge and Vuze at that and it's almost if not lighter than µTorrent. Granted that the UI looks a bit spartan but it gets the job done. I highly recommend it!
