A fair number of games revolve around some form of violence. Even if the violence is fairly tame, there's always the central conceit that something has to get hurt to lose. You might be fighting soldiers or aliens, or perhaps just jumping on turtles - it's just one of those core parts of gaming. As time has gone on, though, more developers have begun creating games that don't involve any kind of violence. While these games are mostly in the sports and racing fields, there are a few unique games that allow players to compete without any kind of violence. Kreedz Climbing is one of these games.

No Violence or Combat but Still a Fun Parkour Style Game

Kreedz Climbing is a racing game, albeit one on foot. If it's similar to anything, it's probably the less intense parts of Mirror's Edge. Instead of running from government agents, though, players are just competing against the computer (or one another). There's no combat here, no real sense of anything other than trying to beat a time. It's definitely different than most of what's on the market, and it's really a relief for those who are getting tired of the same combat-based games. The fact that the game is actually good is almost a bonus at this point.

It's fair to look at Kreedz as a multi-discipline parkour game. The game makes use of the Source engine to provide a fairly in-depth racing simulator, but the real joy comes in figuring out just how to get through each map. There are well over one hundred maps, each of which provides its own unique challenges. The early maps are a breeze, but it takes real dedication to get through some of the later challenges. This is a game that's great for people who really want to master a specific set of first-person platforming skills.

Helpful Community to Assist with the Learning Curve

One of the other great selling points of the game is the community. Despite the fact that it has roots in other Source games like Counter Strike: GO, it's actually an incredibly friendly group of people. While the learning curve can be fairly steep, most players are more than happy to help new players improve. A great deal of this has to do with a lack of a team element, of course, but something about the non-violent nature of the game really does seep into how players interact with one another. It's one of the few truly relaxing multiplayer games available.

Conclusion

Is Kreedz for everyone? Probably not. It's very different than most of what you'll find out there and only real first-person platforming enthusiasts will get a kick out of the game. If you fall into that group, though, you'll absolutely fall in love with the game. Spend some time with the community and don't be afraid to try out some of the most esoteric maps - you'll find that the game offers much more than meets the eye. This may not be the perfect game for everyone, but it's absolutely the game that some don't even realize they need. If you want your thrills to come from competition, this game is for you.
