  "Crapware"

The only OS that is halfway stable, looks nice, & runs nearly everything you throw at it at the moment, is XP Pro.

Win 95 crashes & doesn't include USB support without a service pack. Win 98 is more stable, but even the 2cd edition suffers from harddisk size limitations & file corruptions.

Win ME crashes worse than 95 OR 98 & is half baked. XP Home doesn't do so well at times. Vista gives false reports & crashes when trying to do something as simple as copying 800 mb of mp3 from an mp3 player directly to a 1 gb flash drive. Unless you do it in batches...

XP handles it fine. Screw it! Microsoft is fixing to mess everything up. With older games that won't work even under compatibility mode in XP because of the need for true dos...

With ME Still being based on dos...

With XP requiring SP2 for some things, or breaking some apps that DO have SP2, or requiring SP3, or not working with some things that DO have SP3...

Add that to apps that require either .Net Framework 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, or 3.6...

Factor in some games that will require DX-10 that is ONLY being made for Vista (Vista crashes & is based on Trusted Computing Platform, among other things...)

You have one huge mess that no-one is going to be able to fix any time soon.

Trust MS to do away with standards & introduce new, confusing things that no longer work to try to force you to buy newer OS than you really need because they want to make a few million more bucks.

Think how they are trying to do software. What would YOU do, if your car manufacturer did things the same way that Microsoft did & told you, "You did NOT buy the car, only the license to use it."

They tell you where you can drive it, when, & how far. The car frequently crashes, or messes up, & the only way the upgrades will work is with newer hardware that you have to pay for...
