Mozilla Firefox is a fast, full-featured browser for Windows that makes browsing more efficient than ever before. Firefox includes pop-up blocking; a tab-browsing mode that lets you open several pages in a single window; integrated Google searching; simplified privacy controls that let you cover your tracks more effectively; a streamlined browser window that shows you more of the page than any other browser; and a number of additional features that work with you to help you get the most out of your time online.
Additional features include:
- Live Bookmarks - RSS integration lets you read the latest news headlines and read updates to your favorite sites that are syndicated.
- Extensions - Small add-ons that add new functionality to your Mozilla program.
- Themes - Allows you to change the way your Mozilla program looks with new graphics and colors.
- Privacy and Security - Built with your security in mind, Firefox keeps your computer safe from malicious spyware by not loading harmful ActiveX controls.
- Plugins - Programs that allow websites to provide content to you and have it appear in your browser.
Firefox also comes with a standard set of developer tools including a powerful JavaScript and CSS error/warning console, and an optional Document Inspector that gives detailed insight about your pages.
Other editions of Mozilla Firefox are also available:

Firefox is excellent. I will break down how it rates in relation to other popular browsers.
- Internet Explorer / Lots of bugs, tabs crash frequently, uses a lot of mem, always has problems on certain pages with "Internet Explorer encountered such and such an error, are you sure you would like to display pages, yes or no?"
- Firefox / Easy to use, bookmarking, highly customizable, popup blocking, form filling, stable tabs, have had over 1,611 tabs open before with no crashing compared to Internet Explorer crashing on fewer than 20 & even at times as few as 4 tabs. Have even had Internet Explorer 7 & 8 crash on 1 tab! IE is a laugh to use!
- Google Chrome / Fast, appears to be stable, but features that you need are sometimes hidden from view or as easily accessed like as in Firefox. Doesn't have features Firefox does such as ability to CTRL + middle mouse button zoom in or out of web pages (including pictures)
- Safari / Looks nice, works ok, but again, lacks features & customizability. Seems to have problems with certain webpages.
- Opera / Fast, clean, easy to use. Seems to be stable. The second choice after Firefox. Not quite as customizable & not having certain features I consider critical in Firefox.
Below is a listing of the browser I consider to be the best on top, all the way to the worst at the bottom with my comments & grading.
* Firefox / A+ / Frequent updates, stable, nice features, very secure
* Opera / A / Updates (but not frequently) stable, nice features although missing some things I love about Firefox
* Google Chrome / B+ / Clean interface, fast, stable, frequent updates. Still missing things that make Firefox king
* Safari / B / Clean interface, stable, fast. Updates less frequently. Still doesn't have what it takes to compete with Firefox, Opera, or Google Chrome.
* Internet Explorer / D- / Went from easy to use to easy to confuse, updates infrequently compared to the above, NOT stable, NOT secure. Active-X vulnerability is responsible for a LOT of "driveby" malware downloading, then installing just by visiting certain websites! No user interaction, IE clicking ok required. just visiting a website can infect you!
*** Internet Explorer crashes too much to be considered seriously as a browser, in addition to locking up, freezing, slowing down, malware infections, & things I just won't list here!
Firefox is my #1 choice in features, stability, & ease of use followed by Opera, Google Chrome, Safari.
Internet Explorer gets a D- for being a nuisance to use!
Seriously, have seen malware infections drop a ton just by switching people AWAY from any version of IE.
Any of the above browsers other than IE will be more secure, faster, better, but I listed Firefox as number 1 because I haven't seen anything as easy to use, customizable, or that comes as close to having only the essential features where you would expect them to be "right out of the box" on install.
Firefox seems to do the best job of security + hiding advanced features that you can find if you need them, even though even that is easy with their tools/option/tabbed interface! |
