PicoTorrent is a lightweight BitTorrent client that is designed for use in Windows operating systems. The user-friendly application has high performance while using relatively little memory.

Features and Functions

There are 32-bit and 64-bit editions of PicoTorrent to support all Windows versions. You just need to download the right edition for your system. Whichever edition of the software or version of Windows you use it on, you will get a native look and feel. This is due to the fact that the software is directly built on Windows APIs.

PicoTorrent is written in modern C++ and based on Rasterbar-libtorrent. It only depends on the functions that Rasterbar-libtorrent requires, such as Boost.Random and Boost.System, with all the dependencies being pre-packaged in a NuGet package. However, you do not have to know anything about these functions as a user.

The free and open source program features a multi-lingual user interface. It stores its configuration in a JSON file that is found in a different location depending on whether the program is installed or not. If the program is used in portable format, the file is stored next to the executable file.

You can use custom filters, each of which contains a pattern and a name. A pattern allows you to use a regular expression to filter required files.

You can simplify some tasks by using keyboard shortcuts. For example, you can remove selected torrents and their downloaded data by pressing "Shift+Delete." If you want to retain the data while removing the torrents, simply press "Delete." To select all torrents, use the global hot-key "Ctrl+A."

PicoTorrent supports various plug-ins that extend its functionality. You may add a WebSocket server if you need to broadcast torrent updates to connected clients. However, it is not recommended that you use the server for internet traffic because it is still unprotected. PicoTorrent itself has strong encryption that supports HTTP(S), SOCKS5, SOCKS4 and I2P proxies, which are configured in the "Connection" tab Under "Preferences". You may even use anonymous mode to enhance your privacy.

Conclusion

PicoTorrent is a small but powerful BitTorrent client that supports both IPv6 and IPv4 protocols.
