SocketTools File Transfer is a special tool for developing applications that can upload and download files using both Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and File Transfer Protocol (FTP). You can use it to implement basic file transfer capability in any type of software, and you generally achieve this by adding just a few lines of code.

The application provides an interface linked to file transfer services, enabling developers to download and upload files and manage files remotely even when they do not know how the application protocols work. The single interface supports both HTTP and FTP protocols. It suffices in transferring files without the need of any other control for most applications. Only in a few instances will you need the advanced functions of another SocketTools control, but you can easily integrate it with that other tool.

SocketTools File Transfer implements the control as a standard COM object that can be used in scripting environments and visual development tools. It also supports both server-side and client-side scripting using languages like Jscript and VBScript. You do not need to redistribute any third-party library because the control is self-contained.

The File Transfer Control can connect to a server either implicitly or explicitly. Whichever method is used to connect to a server, you will need to provide the name, type and port of the server and specify whether or not it is secure. Since these details are interrelated, you do not always need to explicitly specify all of them. For example, port numbers 443 and 80 correspond to HTTP while port numbers 990 and 21 correspond to FTP. When you use a different port number, however, you will need to specify the server type.

When you want to implement the control in your project, simply follow the usual steps required to include any ActiveX control.

Includes .NET and ActiveX components on 32-bit and 64-bit platforms, with support for both IPv4 and IPv6 connections.

Documentation and examples are included with the product. This freeware version is completely free to use and redistribute.
