Occasionally you need to check the spelling of words in an application that does not include a spelling checker and you donīt want to launch your word processor just for that. This is when tinySpell becomes handy.
tinySpell is a useful utility that lets you to easily and quickly verify the spelling of words in any Windows application. tinySpell monitors your typing on the fly and alerts you whenever it detects a misspelled word. It also checks the spelling of every word you copy to the clipboard.
tinySpell installs itself in the system tray for easy access. It comes with an American-English dictionary containing more than 110,000 words.
What's New in version 1.9.0.1:
- A portable version of tinySpell (the freeware) is now available. Just download the zip file and extract the tinySpell folder to your drive. You can put the portable version on any drive, including your hard drive and portable drives (USB, SD, etc.). The portable version does not require an installation and does not use the Windows registry. The settings and other data (e.g., private dictionary) are all saved in the tinySpell folder. Note that with this version when you check the option "Run tinySpell at startup" tinySpell adds a link to the Windows Startup folder.
- The spelling tip can now be displayed also in applications that do not provide the position of the caret (the current typing position). In such a case the spelling tip is displayed in the top-right corner of the window. To enable this you need to check the option "Show spelling tip even if caret position is not available" (in Settings).
- Multiple monitors are now handled correctly (hopefully).
- [tinySpell+] It is now possible to import/export lists of words to/from the private dictionary, including auto-replacements. Import and export can be scheduled to allow synchronization between the private dictionaries of users on the same network.
- [tinySpell+] When you open the replacements list you have an additional option "Add auto-replacement" that allows you to add to the dictionary an auto-replacement to the misspelled word instead of the word itself.
- [tinySpell+] When the option "Match dictionary to current language" is not set you can change the dictionary by right-clicking the tinySpell tray icon and selecting "Language".
- [tinySpell+] When you open the webinfo bar the whole text in the bar is selected and can easily be deleted. Also, the whole text can be selected with Ctrl+A.
