Windows 10 has been in the mouths and fingers of many people around the world in the recent past, and it is not always for good reasons. One of the greatest concerns people have relates to privacy, as Microsoft seems to collect too much private data from its users. While it is true that the company's latest operating system collects a significant amount of information, the fact is that even earlier operating systems collected (and still collect) different types of personal data. Thankfully, you can protect yourself with Windows Privacy Tweaker.

Using Windows Privacy Tweaker

We extracted the program's content to our desired location, from where we launched the executable file because it was portable. The free privacy protection program featured a simple graphical user interface with five tabs on its upper part for accessing different features and functions.

The Information tab gave us an overview of the software, including a brief explanation of how to use it. The Services tab displayed the intrusive services on our system. The program listed their display names, actual names, description and status. Each service had a check box on the left side for selecting or deselecting it. We could also check or uncheck all services at once using relevant options on the lower right part of the program window.

The Task Scheduler tab displayed intrusive scheduled tasks, listing their names, paths and status. They also had check boxes like the services. On the other hand, the Registry tab listed intrusive registry keys. These keys are commonly found in Windows 10.

In each tab, Windows Privacy Tweaker displayed unsafe entries in red, making them easier to spot. All we needed to do was click their respective 'Disable' buttons. We could also disable other features even if they were not marked in red.

The last tab enabled us to protect our system from USB threats. We could set our USB devices to three modes: fully operational mode, read only mode and disabled mode. The last option put our system to stealth mode and we could not see any USB storage device while the second one prevented writing and thereby stopping possible spread of viruses. The first mode let us use USB devices normally.

Conclusion

Windows Privacy Tweaker is an intuitive program that makes it easy to deactivate features that collect personal data unnecessarily. You will find it easy to reset your security and privacy settings to their maximum levels. However, it is important to note that the program only targets default Windows privacy options, which means it will not get rid of potential privacy and security threats from third-party applications. The free privacy protection software is compatible with older operating systems, starting with Windows Vista.
