Someone needs our help and I'm asking you to cross the line to help.
It's not often I meddle in the affairs of others. I have a group of
friends by which I am known, My LUG, Church, and aside from that…you
wouldn't know me from the next guy. A book, a few paper and digitally
published articles, a handful of public speaking appearances…do not
exactly render one famous. If I were famous, this would be much easier.
Someone within our community is in a jam. Now, I am not talking about
running out of cigarette money 3 days before payday. I'm talking about
not having a payday anymore. What seemed to be a fairly stable
employment turned into a sea of pink for hundreds at this firm. Yes,
this person is just one of many…but this person is one of us. Our
Friend has provided us with a Linux help site and news outlet for
several years and has not once asked for a donation. Our Friend has
pocketed the full expense of servers and hosting, not to mention the
time for research and helping others. Our Friend, over a year ago,
emailed me in the middle of the night…a solution to my problem came as
a dream, and the solution was emailed to me within minutes.
Now Our Friend is in Trouble. Things are starting to be turned off. Electricity, gas, water…
The Mortgage Company will be dropping by soon.
Lobby4Linux.com will be in a position to offer Our Friend part time
work starting in the middle of August, but until then all we can do is
do the same thing we are asking you to do.
Give our friend a hand.
We're not talking much here, 5 or 10 bucks…Lobby4Linux.com has
deposited the first 100.00 in the effort, but we do not expect everyone
to do that. 5 or 10 bucks will be fine. Because Our Friend needs our
help and because Lobby4Linux needs you to help, this is what we are
willing to do. When you donate thru the Lobby4Linux.com paypal link,
make sure to include your email address and name. On August 15th, 2005
a drawing will be held, consisting of the names of all who donate and
the winner will receive a new dvd burner (linux compatable of course).
The five runners-up will receive a licensed copy of Appgen's MyBooks
Pro. The software provided by Appgen has been generously donated by
Mrs. Joanie Mann, Vice President of Appgen, inc.
Our Friend
is humiliated by this situation and has yet to learn of our concern and
effort. I am sure individual emails of thanks and gratitude will follow
your help. It's your help Our Friend is counting on now.
This is where we find out just how much of a community we are. I hope we are as tight as others see us.
All-righty Then
