small, fast, easy, dll error free, autopilot, support nearly all file types, powerful with many advanced features and it is FREE..a flawless toy to me;) by: doraemon | 5 | 2005-07-27 | | | | "One word: Amazing..."
This is the very best alternative to M$ Office. Although it's not the final version, I've been using it for months, with very much pleasure.
At some points OOo is even better than M$ Office: it supports much more filetypes and it has one of the best features: one-click-PDF! And the very best feature: it totally FREEEEha!!!

Ok, I goofed. This is a "snapshot" build of 2.0....sorry for the mistake. *blushes* by: Inkpot | 5 | 2005-07-19 | | | | "This is NOT version 2.0!!"
Version 2.0 of OpenOffice has not been officially released yet. The most current stable release is version 1.1.4 which can be found on the OpenOffice website. Version 2.0 is going to be a very welcome addition to an already fantastic product, but 2.0 has NOT been officially released yet! =) by: Inkpot | 5 | 2005-07-19 | | | | "Minor Quirks, Excellent Overall."
While not entirely perfect, this is still an excellent alternative to MS Office. The few imperfections are very minor, mostly impacting Office files in OpenOffice, not OpenOffice files in MS Office. In other words, MS Office users, and other OpenOffice users, will never even know about them. For example, in the OpenOffice spreadsheet, the right-align text option does not work properly, causing any cell with text right-aligned in MS Office to revert to left-aligned in OpenOffice, with the text ending in that cell. However, the text is still there and can be easily fixed by moving it over a cell or two allowing the entire text to be visible while left-aligned. If spreadsheet text is layed out in this manner in OpenOffice, the spreadsheet will look just fine when opened with MS Office. Only very minor issues like this prevent the programs from being absolutely perfect - all the major functions, and overall programs, work just fine. Considering the price (free), I suspect most users can easily live with these minor quirks. by: Fred "Anonymous" | 5 | 2005-02-21 | | | | "Useful alternative to MSFT"
OpenOffice is a free alternative to the costly Office suite. The features and ease of use are getting better with each revision. Currently I am running on version 1.03. Revisions are made to the office suite nearly once a month. In time, OpenOffice will be the reigning office suite for users across all platforms. I highly recommend it. It did not recieve a perfect from me, solely due to its slight conversion problems, which are being fixed with each new revision. by: OpenFan | 4 | 2003-08-20 | | | | "Who needs to pay??"
Works in every platform; no need spend cash to feed Microsoft... by: PcMacLinux | 5 | 2003-03-12 | | | | "MAKE THE SWITCH"
So, I've been using OpenOffice.org regularly now since v1.0 (now at v1.0.1), and I'm VERY happy with it. Almost every MS Office file I've opened with OOo has looked fine, and OOo does everything I want and need it to do. If I'm using Windows, and a buddy of mine is using Linux, and another is using Mac, no problem! We can all exchange files with each other using OOo for $0 instead of $1000 collectively. And I can still save a file in .doc format in case a colleague needs it. Entire countries are ditching MS Office and switching to OOo; so have I. I have been using StarOffice for quite a while now, and while it is not as easy to use as Microsuck's programs, it is very full featured, and acceptable stable to work with. Get it now! by: Euge | 4 | 2002-02-17 | | | | "Use it"
Better than the micro$oft apps...
Use it. by: Oliv | 4 | 2002-02-16 | | | | "Worth paying for"
I have been using StarOffice and/or OpenOffice for several years as my home office suite. In most ways, it is just as good as Microsoft Office. It can do almost everything, though the controls are not as slick as MS Office. OpenOffice is the alpha/beta verson of StarOffice and tends to be a little buggy. Build 641C is no exception. However, it is very usable and I have not lost or damaged any files by using it. by: Tim Miller | 4 | 2002-02-08 | | | |
