"Don't knock Windows Defender no anti-spyware program is 100% effective"
I ran a scan with Spyware Doctor (paid),Spybot S&D and with Windows Defender and the results were the same.
I am reluctant to proclaim that a certain computer protection tool is the best as I do not think that there is such a tool. Almost all of them are on the same level and I do not think that one computer protection software will keep my machine safer than the other.
It can protect it from certain malware, while other such tools protect it from yet other types of computer threats. But my conclusion is that Windows Defender is a good tool to protect your computer against most threats.
The software does not take more than 21MB of RAM, even in full system scan.

"should be better"
whatever your opinion may be, the truth is defender should be better. microsoft have endless resources and should be able to produce a good spyware programe that easily beats any freeware programe. switch off the realtime protection and defender is impotent. i am a genuine geek hoppy and ive tested defender for quite some time and i dont rate it either. defender will always have its loyal core which is fine. if it works for you then stick with it but dont tell me microsoft couldnt have made defender better. its quite simple, give it a proper removal scanner and then you have the programe that defenders loyal core claim it is. by: the judge | 2 | 2008-04-04 |

"whats a noob?"
whats a noob? would that be a plonker aswell? anyway to answer your question geek boy i ran defender for 6 months and when my computer became infected with various nasties defender didnt do much in preventing or dealing with it. the i.t guy at work also advised me that defender was kak and advised me to download spybot, which i did. spybot dealt with it after just one scan and since then my pc has been fine. all our i.t department think defender is crap and i stand bye my review. and for your benefit! onecare do not use defender to deal with malware. they use the same database but not the same programme. now go and get laid, grow a beard and smoke a spliff, chill out and stop being a silly little geek. by: hoppy | 1 | 2008-04-03 |

"HOPPY YOU PLONKER"
Review by Hoppy quote
"defender is crap at removing spyware its primary function is to "defend" . its scanner is as useful as a handbrake in a cruise missile.. download spybot as its scanner is leathal at removal or better still go to microsoft and use the live online scanner called onecare. it gets rid of evreything and is free to use if your stuck". HA !HA !HA! YOU FOOL YOU HATE WINDOWS DEFENDER YET YOU LIKE WINDOWS LIVE ONE CARE SCAN THAT USES WINDOWS DEFENDER FOR IT'S MALWARE SCAN.

"6 - Fantastic!"
My first choice is Microsoft's Windows Defender program [2]. Defender is the latest re-incarnation of the excellent Giant Anti-Spyware product that Microsoft purchased late in 2004. Based on my tests, Windows Defender is not as effective as its immediate predecessor but still has solid protective capability. I tested it on several drive-by download sites. Its multiple, real time monitors provided a reasonable (though by no means watertight) defense. It appears to be a little vulnerable to polymorphic malware in particular and for this reason I suggest it should be used in combination with regular, on-demand scans from the free AVG Anti-Spyware. My other reservation about Windows Defender is that it consumes quite a lot of your processing power. If you have a modern PC this should not be a problem, however, older machines will definitely suffer a performance hit.

"Most complete free anti-spy program with no disabled features"
Worth running the full scan 2-3 hrs once a month if you like to browse Mcafee siteadvisor red X websites,Defender has often found the odd trojan or two. by: Tonka | 5 | 2008-03-25 |

"Realtime Protection"
Windows Defender has a good detection rate for Trojans but Spyware it has missed a few that AVG anti-spyware has detected.
To the noob below you don't have to format your hard drive every time you detect malware just delete it. by: Mitch | 5 | 2008-03-01 |
