if it did not have to update from the internet to perform a scan. The first thing I do if a computer is infected is remove the network connection to stop it any further. So a big thumbs down.

nice bit of kit.. i always have spyware doctor but this combind with search and destroy is BRUTAL!

this months web user (august) says that spybots detection rate is down to 95% .that aside i think spybot needs an overhaul as it burns a lot of cpu during scanning as does its t time shield, which i feel is intrusive. spybot looks like it was designed on a zx spectrum 48k. it looks old and dated and not very user friendly. i recently replaced spybot with spycatcher, pc clean and a squared and after scans they picked up many things old sd missed. my system is running a lot better for it. if you plan to use spybot as your primary program then i would also download a squared for its scanning capabilities.

this is a excellent spyware tool,great features,take your time read carefully,and you will enjoy realtime protection and tea time protection,if you are concerned with spyware and you should be,as we all are use this tool!

S&D was good up to version5,but lately seems to be a problem with the trojan update files.Tea timer is good,but can be ammoying as stated,so you should turn off the scheduler,if you use 'startup mechanic 2x'its in its startup section.

I tried the v- 1.60.28; since they don't say what the 1.60.30 difference is, I presume it's a language update.
Anyho, in conjuction with my previous posting:
I tried the Tea Timer, and found that it works pretty well. Could stand to shed some RAM, but,ehh.
Except for its CPU scan usage, I found the whole program works pretty well (much better for me than the last v- 1.4 release --- the previous version I tried --I didn't try any of the 1.5s).
Has some neat features in Advanced mode
I think that perhaps its greatest deficiency , as other posters have noted, is its lack of timely signiture updates.

As things stand, this one isn't nearly as good as Ad-Aware SE, A-Square or Spycatcher Express.

To the person with 244 detections ... dayum ! ... what, did you have the 'find tracks / trackings' selected, additionally?
Fully database updated, it found good 'ol Microsoft's, IE's Alexa (search page file, not the tool bar) on my scan.
Anywayz, presently, has 170,305 definitions;
what I opted, install size came to 42.8mb.
I don't have the Tea Time enabled, so I can't speak to that function, yet
Beyond its standard, good features, It has some neat modules in its Advanced mode> Tools (one example, nice HOSTS feature).
Its total memory during scan usage is very good
However, the largest concern I have, is the prolonged, excessive CPU usage during scan (and I had nothing else open)

Like the previous reviewer said, if you have say, 244 problems or so, Spybot does lock up on fixing the problems.
The way around it that I use, is select only 3 or maybe 5 or so problems at a time. I am not sure the number it can fix before locking up, but I select a few, then when it says 5 problems fixed, I select a few more, & so on till I got them all.
Good program, nasty bug!

I have spent the whole day today, 27 June 2008, downloading this program onto two separate computers. After an hour and ten minutes of scanning, and being informed that there are 244+ problems, when the Fix these items was pressed, the program defaulted and failed to respond. This was done on both computers TWICE with the same result. It's about time they fixed this problem, no wonder people won't use it

Why can't the Spybot S&D programmers concentrate on the signature updates it would be nice to get updates at least once a week instead of every month rather than refining the interface with all these beta updates.

If I could I would donate my whole check to this company or person who made this company. I just dont own credit card. I will find some way to donate money I promise this. I started off with System Mechanic Pro. No problems with that. It did its job. I downloaded this program and it found over 100 huge threats from spyware to trojans. I can NOT THANK you enough Spybot makers. Thank you so much for saving my PC.
