"AVG average at best"

AVG would not uninstall left with loads of entries services, startup & registry which some would not delete had to install Unlocker to delete files.Reason uninstalling slows down laptop detection rates plummeting .
AVG = bloat, more bloat = more RAM use + Laptop down to a crawl.
Detection rates have dropped avcomparatives will confirm this ,trying Microsoft Security Essentials at present much better uses virtually no memory

"Version 7.5 better lighter faster"

AVG has turned into a bloatware antivirus program eats RAM and the detection rates are worse despite adding anti-spyware also i hate the nagscreen "Warning! Upgrade to paid version" if i really wanted to buy an AVG program would i want to buy AVG ?

"Time Tested"

MSE or Microsoft Security Essentials hasn't passed the test of time yet. AVG is a known time tested respected virus protection software. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Not to mention IMO MSE doesn't detect all spyware/malware, only what it considers malicious. I like this software and since it's free, no reason to complain here.

"3 words ..."

Microsoft Security Essentials

What with Windows 7 and MSE, MS better watch out for the big head ... they're finally doing something right for a change.

Seriously, forget about AVG, Avast, Avira and the paid stuff. MSE and Threatfire are all that you need to battle the baddies: Fast, simple, unnoticeable, effective. Everything that AVG (and the rest of 'em) aren't.

"User friendly"

AVG scores quite well avcomparatives website test results usually above average compared with other av suites .AVG is not suitable for computers with 1GB of RAM or less especially if you have Vista installed as you will notice a slow down & higher memory usage although AVG uses no more memory than Norton or McAfee it is a good free AV but must be used with a good free Firewall such as either Outpost or Comodo as Windows firewall not the best .Also install either Superantispyware or Malwarebytes anti-malware to turn your PC into a fortress so no spyware virus/trojans can enter .

"Ain't what it used to be"

I used to have AVG on all my windows computers, but the current version is as bloated as Norton or McAffe. I am running XP pro on a 2GHz system with 1GB of RAM and my computer still freezes. Performance shows avgrsx.exe is often using 100% of my CPU. Time to leave jabba the hut and try something else.

"its good but not great."

Been using avg for about 8 months now and i would say its a good free av but its not the best.!
The plus points are, its free, non intrusive (except for annoying pop ups), updates daily, has many features for a free program, low on false positives.
The bad points are, pop ups prompting you to buy pro version, heavy on resources, slows system start up, full scan takes about a month.lol.
I recently uninstalled the full version of avg from my lappy and replaced it with nod32 and avg isn't in the same league tbh.
Nod32 is much lighter and has better overall performance.
I think avg and comodo share very similar d.n.a so it might be a good idea to go for comodo and get a full av program as supposed to a free one with limited features but a better brand name.
However you could do a lot worse than avg and its still a good free av program.

"Now has popup ads - BAD!!"

I agree with the previous reviewer cyberrover. The new popup ads are a intrusion. I may start looking for a new antivirus program.
It also seem to slow down windows by scanning the shortcuts in your startmenu evreytime you use the startmenu. You can not change this behavior.

"Ad Pop-up on latest Version"

Despite its shortcoming in virus detection I still like AVG because of its comprehensive features. The memory hog is getting down but the scanning time is still to long. However, the recent update which feature ID protection is getting to annoy me. The ID protection is not activated by default. Clicking the GUI to activate it will lead you to a web page where it will tell you what ID protection is. It's not free yet no warning or note is provided in its GUI or window. If you ignore the feature, you will be bombarded with pop-up message asking you to activate it. Really annoying when you are in the middle of something. Including it in their update just to promote the feature is a bad judgment on their part. I hate distraction when I'm working.

AVG-free, think over before you'll lose more patrons.
