"Fine Software"
I have used this on Win98,XPhome and XPpro machines. Properly set up it will 100% pass Sygate, Symantec, and Shields Up! security tests. Works fine on XP SP2. Very simple to understand unless you are a complete novice, and rock solid. 5 stars to Sygate! I am currently running v.5 on all 3 of my systems. A while back I bought Norton 2004, and dumped it after 6 months.

Sygate Personal Firewall is my best firewall. In many tests it's a winner. You'll forget about spyware and trojan horses like me forever.

have used sygate 4.2 for years.it works but this version 5.5 sucks it does not stealth your machine leaving it visible to hackers.

"AVIOD THIS!!!!"
This program is good as long as you don't plan to remove it. Once you do, you moight as well redo your machine because it will crash repeatly! I know this is it because I had an excelent computer and then it all went away.

"Sygate Personal Firewall 5.5"
I found this software easy to install and configure, and since my Norton Firewall subscription expired in early March '04 and I have not heard from Norton since, I subsequently downloaded Sygate Personal Firewall very recently to replace it. So far, no problems. I may well update to the Pro version if all my applications continue to run smoothly with the above Free version.

When I installed this software it conflicted with other programs. Posibly with Norton anti-virous.The only way my computer would operate was in safe mode. I took my computer the a buddy to fix and ended up having to do a complete restore.

I'll make this short & sweet. I've tried Zone Alarm, Tiny, Norton Etc. And even though All of these are Good, This one from Sygate is Excellent !!! It can show you Network Activity, Of course can be set to save Logs and many other things But "THIS IS A STEALTH FIREWALL" !!! I'm using it on XP Pro Now but also used it on Win.98SE. Never causes any Conflicts, THIS IS A "BRICK FIREWALL" PERIOD.

I have tried several other firewalls, including: Zone Alarm, Tiny Personal, and Outpost. Sygate is definitely the most effective. A code red attack was trace routed and reported back to my ISP. Sygate also will politely inter-operate with the two major Anti-Virus commercial offerings Norton and McAfee (Zone Alarm is a problem for McAfee). This program puts all ports in stealth mode and uses far less resources (only 18 Threads). This is very well thought out/designed product and warrants Freeware File of the Year!
