"works fine here, so I don't know what the others are doing"
I am running xp, and I have not had any problems yet. I have eraser installed on xp home and xp pro as well as my computer at work and I have had no problems. It has done well for me as for deleting things that were sensitive that I was not wanting reproduced or peices left behind. The others might be having trouble with a case of software confliction, but since I dont know what they are using in xp then who knows what the problem is(?). I have found that software that are fighting eith one another is the typical case, which I have had a fare share of in the past. by: jason | 5 | 2007-10-22 |

"Dont use this software"
It corrupted files on my hard drive so I had to install my entire system from scratch. It cost me one and a half days of hell. by: Allan | 1 | 2007-07-31 |

"Wrecked XP"
Eraser 5.8.2 broke XP upon installation on both computers I tried it on. I never even ran Eraser, but both computers suffered fatal damage to Windows Explorer, and Office needed a partial reinstall. Maybe it works as an erasing tool, but I never tried it.

"Kills windows better than a virus!"
I downloaded this onto a very clean and perfect win2K setup that I had run for some years without a single crash. Please notice the use of past tense. i used it twice to delete two individual files; it deleted them all right, along with a section of my master file table, some boot.ini and a chunk out of nero. After two days spent trying to repair the damage, I gave up and reformatted. Thanks a lot. by: Stuart W | 1 | 2006-12-29 |

"Some late info!"
After my first review I found another free space wiper. That was found to leave all files intact! Not intentionaly of course. I find this all rather suspicious. Whats changed? The latest drives, or an update to the operating system. I have an open mind. by: alberteinstein | 4 | 2006-07-29 |

"A strange one this!"
I've had none of the problems listed here in 4 years use. Files wipe great. Shell menu, no problem. Free disk space? This year- problems. 1st 3 years- no problems. A different drive now.
I think this thing is hardware related for sure. My comments apply to 5.8 AND 5.7. No difference-- same problem. A damaged file table would cause the other reviewers problem. This app only wipes what the file table says is empty. by: alberteinstein | 4 | 2006-07-29 |

"Caused me problems"
Running XP at home and at work, and this program caused strange, seemingly unrelated problems on both machines. I finally uninstalled from both machines, and they are back to normal. by: ash | 1 | 2006-07-27 |

"a very good cleaner"
used eraser 5.8 since it became available have had no problems with and it does a very good job. by: max | 4 | 2006-05-22 |

"Stick with 5.7"
I love Eraser, but the 5.8 release is a joke. How long has it been since these fools took over the project from Sami Tolvanen--four years? And this is the first release with any manner of new functionality? And yet, what little new functionality there is doesn't work correctly (at least not on my system; the shell extension is screwed up badly.)
Obviously, the new "maintainers" of this once-great open-source project simply wanted to redirect donations into their coffers.

"The best"
Eraser goes beyond erasing: it eradicates. This is a military standard compliant disk data eraser, the best of its category. by: Baloney | 5 | 2006-04-12 |
