| | | | "privacy?"
Since when is anything private once on the internet? This is a great software and don't be fool...google or someone else, in the end they all know what's going with your life once logged in, and that's not being paranoid. If you're in need of privacy get another computer and keep it away from the web. by: Skooal | 5 | 2006-11-21 | | | | " Google Desktop 4.2006.1002.1212"
Yes this program does register as spyware in most antispyware apps. Personally I like the idea of free server backup for my data. But if privacy is an issue for you, I would pass this one by. Otherwise the app works perfectly for doing as it claims. So far Google has been the only search engine that has refused to allow the government access to our private data to spy on us. AOL, Yahoo, MSN and many others can't say that. They are all indeed traitors. All I can say is, " Thank God for Google". by: carolinabell1860 | 5 | 2006-10-10 | | | | "Jesus Christ"
Was born on christmas. Anyways, this is a FANTASTIC piece of software and is most definatly NOT a security risk, unless your PERVERTED there is no reason you should be reluctant to share things with google, which by the way is a very secure and safe organization. Looking for something, use this amazing, convinient piece of software. Oh by the way losers, if you are "reluctant" to share info with google then there is an option to turn it off ok?! So why not give it a try... by: Oamey | 5 | 2006-08-30 | | | | "Unfortunately, it works perfectly."
Does Google Desktop search work? It sure does. It works perfectly. And that's the problem. Unless you know how to (or remember to) turn off its ability to store your data on Google's servers, your private data is at GREAT risk. So, yeah, it works perfectly at putting your information in harm's way. So, there's no way that I'll ever put this thing on my computer. Period. by: Carlos | 1 | 2006-03-08 | | | | "Also.."
Good works fine excellent. Great program. if you dont want to share data (not private data cuz that isnt really shared) with google then you can turn it off. SO STOP COMPLAINING by: Jake Smith | 5 | 2006-02-24 | | | | "Buy the way.."
people complain about google taking private information... but it clearly states it does not identify you in many of their policies... But imagine the upcoming release of windows vista... guess what.. internet based... imagine microsoft with your data! omg i cant bear the thought. So im just going to stop typing. by: Jake | 5 | 2006-02-23 | | | | "Ugh.."
if theres a zillion files for them to look through why would they do it? They didnt turn over search history to the government (I think) so ima trust them. by: Jake | 5 | 2006-02-23 | | | | "Very Bad for Private Data"
Although the technology in Google's Desktop Search is very clever and highly reliable, many security and legal experts warn that your private data is a risk by using this tool. In particular, one well-known tech site warns that "..the new tool lets you store your desktop data on Google servers. So when the feds come with a subpoena (or without one, as they frequently do), they'll be able to search through your PC's files... This is a bad enough problem for individuals. But it's far more dangerous for enterprises, because sensitive corporate data is housed on many PCs in an organization." So, storing your personal data on Google's servers is a VERY bad idea. I strongly suggest that you DO NOT USE this new version of Google Desktop Search despite any assurances from Google that your data are safe. It's *absolutely* not worth the risk. by: Chazzz | 1 | 2006-02-10 | | | | "MUST HAVE"
You HAVE TO HAVE THIS!!! This program is absolute genius. I can now instantly "Google" a list of everything on my computer as well as everything on the web (in one integrated search). This is soooooo easy to use - if you've ever used a search engine you already know how to use this. Plus you no longer have to remember what you called the letter you wrote to Aunt Mable last year about her pink dress. Entering ANY of those words will take to right to it. by: bosped | 5 | 2004-11-02 | | | |
