"bad"

Protects nothing.

"why do people download this?"

I compared this program with comodo, which is rated as the best freeware firewall in the net. There is no dependable HIPS feature in zonealarm, unlike in comodo. No doubt, i prefer comodo.

"Subjective"

Check out the results of the latest leak tests conducted by matousec.org. They should help settle the question of which firewalls are better than others. Enough of the subjectivism and impressionism. We all want a firewall that protects. Period.

"Great Program!!!!"

Great for tweaking your system. I run a Intel Core2 Extreme Quad-Core 3.0GHz QX9650 12MB of L2 cache 1333MHz, 4 GB 1066MHz CORSAIR PC2-8500 DDR2 SDRAM, GeForce 9600 GT, 1 TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive, 1.1 Kilowatt power Supply and running Windows Vista Ultimate. My Computer rocks and now with this Great Program, I have a computer that everyone is jealous of. I never have any problems with this program. Also there is a great number of easy to use tools with this program. If you have problems, just buy a computer like mine. Its pocket change for spending over $3,000 on my computer.

"Poor!"

It seems like Zone Alarm stopped producing good firewalls after about version 3.5 or so.

The later bloatware that I have tried leave files behind that are a pain to remove, & if you block internet access & then run the uninstaller, woe to the unknowing user, cause you will won't be able to connect.

In fact, the later versions have an error on installing, & I am not supporting junkware that just won't even install.

A firewall is supposed to do one job, & do it well. Block incoming and outgoing connections unless they have permission.

Sorry Zone Alarm, you need to go on a diet, lose about 40 of those 44 mb of the installer bloatware, then actually make sure your installer works on windows XP.

Come back by then, & I might actually try it.

About as bad as iTunes. They used to have a 30 mb installer, then started bundling Quicktime for an additional 20 mb download.

What the? Suppose people already had quicktime alternative or something installed?

Companies really need to stop making bloatware, & furthermore, we need more people to complain & let them know we don't take bloatware!

"Really?"

This bloatware resource hog software like this and comodo garbage is not at all needed. A firewall blocks incoming and outgoing connections period. So if your running a anti virus next to it your as safe as it's going to get. I use Kerio v 2.15 firewall tiny and solid. No hassels with routers or multiplayer games etc. No leaks. Get it here http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/ I use this Keiro and avg free av. If you choose a big gui bloatware firewall then get zonealarm. Both suck in resouce usage and both phone home. Comodo is horrible to uninstall and will continue to run hidden after you remove it. A start mgr wont find it but autoruns from sys internals will. Wise up people.

"Difficult Diagnosis"

I found that my vista Dell machine crashed more often with Zonealarm installed (i.e. opening program freezes and failure to execute commands). After uninstalling Zonealarm the problem went away. I think more work is required to iron out the few remaining bugs. I have not had any issues with the new version of Comodo yet however.
