The two main sources of a virus are opening a email attachment or downloading from warez website.AVG caught all the viruses backdoors and trojans before i ran the program or the realtime protection caught it.

After reading bigbird's review I did a simular test and found it to be correct. What's the point of running an AV that dosen't detect the most obvious and threatning trojans. There isn't one. Avast and Avira detected what this did not. So I will use one of them and remove the avg. Now I know why I don't get any virus detections. I also did a scan with remove it pro and found plenty bugs avg has missed for me. I prefer to run a program that works.

I tested this by installing trojans. This av didn't even recognize a full blown keylogger while being installed nor in running mode. Did not find it in scan either LOL. Avast killed it before it had a chance to root. That says a lot!

This is for you who cant afford Macafee Virus Scan and Anti Spyware.
The two biggest, best, most popular free Antivirus systems just got bigger and better!. Avast Antivirus now offer built in ANTI-SPYWARE from version 4.8, and it is my personal favorite.
But AVG also offer a free ANTI-SPYWARE to download from the site, so it is like Strawberry or Raspberry.
AVAST and AVG has a better detection rate than many commercial anti-virus products. So protect your PC now!

The word 'free' often equates to an inferior product but, in this case, there is no doubt that this is a professional product.
Split into three sections and a Control Centre, AVG Anti-virus protects against viruses in a number of key areas. The Resident Shield works in the background and checks all files and file types (including floppy disk, CD content etc.) for viruses, whilst the Email Scanner works with Microsoft Exchange and Outlook.
The Boot-up Scanner operates at start-up, and checks the most important areas of a PC before you begin to use it. Every aspect of AVG's virus protection can be configured using the Control Centre, which allows you to modify a number of program settings and to schedule scans, among other things.
When installing there's an option to create a rescue disk for use should any of your key system files become infected. All crucial areas and files on a PC are backed up, and can be restored from this disk.
Conclusion:Simple to use and effective anti-virus with a better detection rate than many commercial anti-virus products.
