AVG detects adware other anti spy programs miss,it has a nice interface, updates are released daily, which can be manually updated. The only downside is the resident shield is disabled on free version.

"Great program"

AVG is one of the best free software out there... it works very efficiently at finding viruses...
Its scans your computer and finds what ever may slow down your system/effect it, sometime the scan may slow down your computer speed, so turn off automatic scan.. and perform the scan every two weeks or so....

many companies tell you that you need firewall$$:$$, but a normal firewall like this, works just fine.

Porn Sites may give you Virus...

"AVG 97.75% detection rate"

Still one of the best free anti virus programs around, light on resources, resident shield has detected and healed my computer a few times from viruses, over the last few years.Used free online scanners too, incaseAVG missed anything but up to now it hasn't.

"Get Avast"

Concerning virus protection, AVG and Avast have the same coverage. But Avast also picks up Spyware and Trojans, and provides an on-access scanner that takes almost no ram.

Get Avast, you'll be glad you did.

"Either Or?"

Why do we have to choose between AVG and Avast? Isn't there another freeware antivirus program that can offer the same or better protection?

"Get Free Avast"

Free but not worth using. Avast is much better and dosen't do auto scans when your busy using your computer. This software is a joke, even comodo tops this and thats a laugh!

"BSOD win2k32.sys"

After an hour Windows Vista 64-bit is crashing with a BSOD.
Something with "A thread ..." and in win2k32.sys

Even without this error i would not rate it 5 stars, it slows down the system tremendously

"question"

In the older version AVG would automaticaly do a full disk scan once every 24 hour period. You could not disable this in the free version. Has anyone tried this new version and does it still do that or can the user disable that feature?

"Solid for the price"

I have this software loaded on my kids computers and it does an adequate job of protecting their computers from viruses. It is what it is, it is free software that doesn't use up your memory like Norton and McAfee do. No matter what software you use, it is up to the user to surf the net safely. I prefer Avast to AVG Free, but the user interface in AVG is easier to use and much more informative.
