This is still the best free software for killing spyware & adware etc etc.
I know that if anyone knows how to make a solid program like this, it`s Microsoft for sure. No crawler licenses or any thing fishy, just a really really good program.

I use this as my main anti-spyware program with a weekly scan with AVG anti-spyware free they miss nothing,and work well together,just like Spybot S&d and Adaware used to many moons ago,but now sadly fail.

Windows Defender for the auto updates ease of use and real time protection.Microsoft are finally delivering the updates to keep up with the ever evolving spyware and Trojans.The only real concern about Windows Defender is that it does not block 3rd party tracking cookies.This is easily remedied by clicking on tools>internet options>privacy>(advanced tab)than change the default setting "always accept 3rd party cookies" uncheck this and check "block third party cookies".

"Strange results"
I use this on my Windows XP laptop and it is excellent always finds some malware when i scan once a month,but with my Vista Desktop it finds nothing. The only other anti-spy program that i use on both my PCs' is Windows Defender,which must work good on Vista but not on XP or is it Spybot S&D works good on XP but not on Vista??

This is the only anti-spyware program that i use as the other free ones only found harmless tracking cookies,adaware and i don't want to slow my computer down with too many anti-spy programs( Ccleaner removes tracking cookies and Adaware.)

If your not willing to buy the full version of AVG ,Spyware Doctor or Webroot spysweeper anti spyware ,you need this for the real time protection.No other free spyware realtime protection works as well as W/Defenders or most have none at all.So ideal if using with either AVG anti spy or Spyware Doctors free version which have disabled realtime protection,both these scanners are far superior than any other anti spyware.

ive read your reveiw alienware and what your saying is a fair point mate.your right that i didnt download limewire from the official site.infact i downloaded it from ares and it was the pro version so fair enough,maybe i got what i deserve.im not saying that the realtime in defender dosent work at all,i just dont think it works very well and i find it very slow. whats wrong with using spybot and simply doing a scan each week. it dosent take long and it resolves any problem. with defender a full scan takes forever and dosent resolve anything. i would rather use a programme that has a fast search and destroy facility than a programme with an average real time protection and no way of dealing with the problem. its like taking vitamin c to prevent catching the flu but once you have got it you need an anti biotic to remove it. if defender could remove the problem then it would be a good programme but it simply cant so i still think its not much use...

Obviously hoppy hasn't downloaded Limewire from the official website if it has hijacked his browser.(see review below).Windows Defender may not find much or nothing at all during a scan,that's because the realtime prevents spyware from getting there in the first place.As for those who say the real- time protection does not work,i dare your to browse the warez websites!

now i know its kak.i had my browser hijaked by limewire spyware and it slowed my computer to crawling speed and sent my blood pressure through the roof. defender is as useful as putting a sticky plaster on a leaking nuclear bomb,its hopeless. spybot found seven MAJOR problems with spyware and simply dealt with them the way defender should have but didnt. defender is a total waste of time as its slow,outdated, has a crap resident scanner with no real time protection and its main scanner takes a fortnight to do a complete scan. avoid defender like the plague.....

"Spyware program not an Anti-virus program"
Disable the real time protection and this program is as good as useless,Windows Defender never finds anything because of it's real time protection.A lot of other spyware programs detect harmless tracking cookies up as spyware,Windows Defender does not.

"what does it do?"
ive used defender for a few months now and fail to see why it gets such great reveiws! its as quick as wind erosion and fails to detect anything,and yes i have used the full scan which detected nothing aswell. i downloaded avast which detected malware and trojan viruses in my pc which defender completley missed.i shall give it some time too see if it does anything in the future but at this stage i dont see the point.

Ran a full scan and it found Trojan:Js/Agent.Java script embedded trojan.My main paid spyware program and AV program missed this.

I would give this program an excellent rating as it has true real time protection that really works (found this out while surfing 'bad websites'),but the full scan takes ages and never finds anything.
