"Excellent"

I used WinAmp for years, and began to grow tired of how it seemed to take up just a bit too many resources. I decided to give Foobar a run, and haven't looked back. While I agree that the learning curve for "newbies" is higher than on most audio players, I'd heartily recommend anyone with even a little experience give it a try. It's free, comes with no nags or bundled software, has a clean interface, and is fast.

"Very nice program!"

The best I know for easy and visible playlists. Boatloads of configurations for those who know what they are doing. Newcomers advised not to tamper too much.
To the reviewer who spoke of "relic" PC's. No offence my friend, but this world has a lot of people in it that would love to own a relic PC. Just be grateful you don't own one.

"Great"

Why should be a well-written program be good only for old computers? Thats nonsense. Foobar2000 is great also for new PCs.

It is certainly not for newbies, but the longer you are tinkering with it and searching foobar2000 forums, the more you like. It is the most configurable software I have ever seen & used.

When I first instaled foobar2000, I uninstaled it after 5 minutes. Later I instaled it again and gave it another chance. It was worth it. Now I am enjoying easy playlist making & swithching and a great interface (columns_ui is a must)...

This player is not for everyone, but you can give it chance.

Foobar2000 is my music player of choice.

"Great if you're using an Old Relic PC"

Pros: If you only want a minimalist and stable yet extensible mp3 player, foobar is for you. Great program especially if you are running some older relic computer with very little memory as this one uses few resources and will not strain an ancient system.

Although many features of this program are not visible [via big buttons, etc] the main window, a long list can be accessed through the main menu and in the Preferences section. It has a fine cross fader and equalizer and more things to tweak than most will know what to do with. All in all a decent player; especially considering that it's free!

Supports many compressed audio formats "out of the box," plug-ins for many more available. If fact it handles just about anything out there but be sure to go to Foobar's website to check out the "Additional components for Foobar2000" section of the main website: http://www.foobar2000.org/components/index.html

Cons: Although I have seen many reviews which tout how this program is "great for newbies" foobar has a learning curve, and is not really good for the entirely computer-illiterate; Newbies fooling around with the tweaks available might run into trouble especially since there is no RESET to DEFAULT buttons. Takes some time to learn and tweak, however you can't really have choices without some level of complexity.

Whatever you do -- DO NOT turn the transparency feature all the way down or you'll be stuck hitting Crtl and Alt shortcuts trying to get it useable again. The program doesn't play videos and doesn't support the RM or RealAudio audio format, though it supports most others. No skins (not yet anyway). Actually, there isn't much a fancy-schmancy interface so to speak of so if that's what you're looking for don't even bother downloading foobar.

Final Note: As far as 'freebie' players go; I still prefer either the quintessential player, VUPlayer or the freeware version of Media Monkey over Foobar2000.

"not to good"

very hard to load music files. I directed it to my music folder and it only recognized a small percentage of what was in the folder. I tried multiple times and it never worked. I wasn't about to load 2000 songs one at a time!

"best MP3 player"

This is the best mp3 player. It may not have skins, but the sound it's excellent, it dosn't use much memory, and the playlist is excellent. Very good if you have big discographys of bands.
