"OMG!!"

Simplement THE BEST REGISTRY CLEANER!!! OMG!!!

"My thoughts about registry cleaning"

Some of my thoughts about registry cleaning:
1. most experts are saying that a bloated registry won't hurt performance - so cleaning registry keys that points nowhere is just useless.
2. If you have a real registry error, then the only way to fix it is to manually edit the specific entry in RegEdit. No automatic registry cleaner will help here.
3. Not only that, an automatic registry cleaner can cause you bigger registry problems then you had before you used it...
4. There are not too many registry cleaners that are known to be "safe" - CCleaner, Easy Cleaner and Jouni Vuorio's RegCleaner are the first who come to mind. If you feel that you must use a registry cleaner than you better use one of those.
5. Before you start deleting things backup your whole registry with system restore and/or ERUNT (the better option) - just in case.

"Should I Use a Registry Cleaner?"

Everyone should read this thread about registry cleaners:

http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=28099&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Listen to experts like Frad Langa or Mark Russinovich who strongly recommends AGAINST using ANY registry cleaner.

"Worse"

I wont rate this freeware tool as worst...but it's definitely worse than most of the paid registry cleaners...i tried it and it removed many file associations...and i have to set the file association again when i try to open even an .avi file!!!! and my free download manager stopped working after using the registry cleaner...:(

"Clarification of earlier review"

I'd previously posted my comments on this program, and I mentioned that although if performed very well, it DID delete a couple of entries (belonging to Agent Ransack) that should not have been deleted.

Further investigation reveals that the reason these entries were deleted is that they were created by the application (Agent Ransack) with a syntax error: they contain a double bracket }} where there should be only one. This caused Argente to misinterpret the contents of these entries and hence view them as deletable. Not Argente's fault.

"Surprisingly good"

This one should get a 4.5

I know from experience that letting some registry cleaners "clean" everything that they report as an error can really mess up your system. Since I have good image backup of my system, I took a chance and let Argente do its thing, without first scrutinizing the long list of items reported. I did mentally prepare myself to RESTORE my system after.

The only thing that Argente broke was the "Agent Ransack" context menu. This was easily resolved by reinstalling Agent Ransack, identifying the two relevant items that were incorrectly deleted, and adding them to Argente's EXCLUDE list. No more problems, in spite of the fact that I have many applications installed on my machine.

This is very commendable performance. I now use Argente regularly, without going through the tedious process of examining every reported item in detail and deciding whether or not it looks safe to delete.

Another thing: the more "errors" that a Registry cleaner finds, the more likely it is that the reported items are not errors. References to non-existent files are NOT errors. For example, many cleaners report various applications' "recent open files" as errors if these files no longer exist. Such entries are not errors, and they will simply be recreated the next time these applications run, so deleting such entries is a completely useless exercise. Argente seems to have managed to avoid such excessive error finding (using the Normal setting under Configure > Scan). As a test, I ran a prominent commercial cleaner after having run Argente, and the former DID report many items that Argente did not, but only a couple of such items could be classified as being worth deleting, while at the same time, it included many references to items whose deletion is useless, even if it is safe to do so.

It is often said that Registry cleaning is unnecessary. Perhaps this is often true, but some of us are bothered by the presence of a significant amount of accumulating garbage on our system, even if the system is not exhibiting any problems. If you are such a person, give this one a go.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

The best registry cleaner, by far, is a wipe and reinstall.

Seriously.

Like a wild animal, Registry Cleaners may be cute and eat from your hand, but eventually they're gonna bite ... hard.

"v- 1.4.0.0"

A wink to previous poster ; )

Presently, the given link on Freewarefiles does not work , for me. Try: http://argentesoftware.blogspot.com/
It's in Spanish, though.

As to this release, on 2kpro, I have "detect only fixed drive entries" checked (it's the default setting).
Yet, during scan, I get two 'Exception Processing Message --- No Disk' notices (I just hit continue).
All else seems fine.

"Exelent"

Well Danny, you and Russovich may be right, but its not JUST about PERFORMANCE is it? A registry full of errors can cause quite a few other problems can't it? And why mark this very good program as 1? If you don't even use it,then please do the author a favor and stop marking it down,it is FREE after all.

"registry cleaning won't improve performance!"

"A few hundred kilobytes of unused keys and values causes no noticeable performance impact on system operation."

(the speaker is non else than Mark Russinovich from Sysinternals, a well respected Windows expert)

"Sorry!"

I must withdraw my previous comment as the program appears to be working perfectly now and has found and removed numerous errors. So far so good, I will post again soon with further details.

"Very God"

This is very good program and free. Easy to use and very good interface. In Windows vista requires administrator privilegies, but works fine.

"Not good"

Wouldn't run on Vista Ultimate, gave error code. Shame I would have liked to have compared it to Glary Regcleaner which is excellent.
