Yes true! What is a anti-virus software good for if it lacks a lot of shields? It is as if someone argued that a anti-virus software is a good one if it has a bad detection ratio. Both aspects are important. AVG stinks!

Avast does have a lot of shields which will protect your pc from viruses, spyware etc. AVG lacks many of those features. An anti-virus software should be rated because of its capability to detect malware and not because if it is equipped with a firewall or a LinkScanner. AVG LinkScanner you can, anyway, download. I myself use McAfee Siteadvisor.

AVG 7.5 (7.5 old version not this new version 8)missed 3 trojan files that installed in windows system 32 folder, i knew something was wrong when my computer froze running suspect file although AVG 7.5 came up clean ,trojan files were verified when i ran Trend Micro Hijackthis another free excellent utility that can be downloaded from this site that informs you of any malware that may be present on your computer running or disabled .I always scan downloaded files before running installing it. Overall i think version 8 is a great improvment over version 7.5 although it is a little heavy on resources as when i run a "System Health Report" Vista user know what this is, it told me AVG was using excessive memory.
