I am IT administrator and have to deal with several computers each day. Avira AntiVir is the best antivirus tool I stumbled upon so far. It has the highest detection rate and even beats Kaspersky's commercial products. The only issue that is sometimes annoying is that AntiVir displays a naggy advertising windows from time to time - right after each online update. However, here's a little trick to turn this off. This workaround is only working in windows xp (pro):
Run 'secpol.msc' which opens the local security settings. Select software restrictions policy on the left and there additional rules. Right click in the window on the right and chose new path rule. Click on browse and navigate to avnotify.exe. (normally in program files/ AntiVir Personaledition Classic/). Select disallowed as the security level and hit OK to close the dialog. What we've done know is that we forbid the execution of avnotifiy.exe which shows the Ads. This works as long as the producer is not updating avnotify.exe itself and changing its name in the process. If that is the case repeat the steps to disallow the new named exe as well.

I was using AVG free when I became infected with an MSN Trojan. AVG was usless at stopping the infection or cleaning up the virus post-infection. So I downloaded AVIRA and did a full system scan. AVIRA detected and removed the virus hands down. It's light on rescources (low memory) and it doing a fantastic job. Excellent program.

"perfect but the freeware version lacks a mailguard"
I am using the professional version (i used bitdefender professional before, also very good, but this perfect)wich as a mailguard i cannot do without. I think Avira is the best antivirus solution!

It does a thorough job of detecting known plus unknown viruses. The annoying pop-up splash screen which displays upon a definition update can easily be surpressed by a pop up blocker such as NoAds.

You never have an anti-virus before try this. I was using avast before updated all the times with viruses on my computer that it cannot detect. After installing this version it detect and clean all.

"Better Than Other A/V"
Compared to other commercial and free antivirus programs, this is my choosen one.
This has better detection capabilities than Avast(excluding AVG for I find it crippled in detection), see Antivirus Benchmarks. The downside is the annoying ADS screen that pops up every updates.. Keep up the great work guys! Few improvements then you shall be on top soon! =)
