Faststone Batch Resizer is AWESOME!
I have thousands of pictures sent in to be posted on the Internet. Of course they are of every size and shape imaginable, both portrait and landscape.
To keep my web page layout from breaking I need them all in the same size, aspect, and orientation (this also makes great looking slide shows that don't jump all over the screen).
Until now I could not find a batch processor with enough power to make a portrait oriented image into a batch matching landscape image.
For a serious batch image user THIS ONE CAN DO IT ALL.
An awesome UI, great looking GUI, I can't say enough.

User tip of the day:
CONVERTING PORTRAIT IMAGES TO LANDSCAPE ORIENTATION
Requires two things:
1)resizing the portrait image to the Landscape width
2)cropping the height to match the Landscape height
Obviously, you lose some of the composition doing this. But most of the time photographers stay consistent with subject framing and using xy crop positioning you can achieve acceptable results for most of the batch.
FASTSTONE BATCH RESIZER SET-UP FOR P TO L ORIENTATION:
I will only cover the portion of set-up that affects portrait to landscape converting.
Under Advance Options > Resize
1)Set the pixel HEIGHT and WIDTH desired
2)un-check – Switch width and height to match long side
3)check – Preserve aspect ratio
4)check – Smart cropping
Under Advance Options > Cropping
1)Set pixel HEIGHT and WIDTH to the same settings as the resize tab
2)set the x coord to zero
3)set the y coord according to subject matter framing for the batch
This last step requires that you look through the thumbs to be batched and guess at the best average distance from the top of the portrait images to start cropping. With a little practice this is not difficult. You will typically have one or two that must be redone, but over all it works great for me.

This one gets a solid 5! It views pictures and does that very well. FS Viewer doesn't try to be a "do everything" software that does nothing particularly well. The pop out menus are excellent. You can exit by clicking the middle mouse button or wheel, or by pressing "ESC". The feature set is just about perfect. Only thing I wish for is a few quick print templates, and to speed up the launch. Perhaps removing the skins from the EXE would help.
Anyone who has a digital camera with hundreds of pictures should try this software in combination with the Windows Explorer. You won't be disappointed!
