I am pretty mixed on this one, it literally scans every file on your pc during a full scan which some other anti spyware products dont do. all in all i give this one a 3 b/c i think there is only room for improvement and maybe later versions will deserve a 4 or a 5

I ran this prog and it found two items missed by Spybot & Adaware - Moral: dont put all your eggs in one basket !!!!

I love this software it detects and safely removes virtually all spyware, and its by Microsoft so I can trust it.

"As good as the rest"
I've used Adaware and SpyBot S&D for years. Both miss some common spyware, Adaware is the weakest, Spybot is good but doesn't always clean properly. Defender found 4 sypware items the others didn't and claimed to have removed them completely. No, it hasn't upset any of my software so far. Defender is as good as SpyBot, not bad for a beta.

Its an ok program but Its not as good as the other well known free spyware programs It miss a number of simple to find spyware bugs Ad Aware got. If you have memory to burn download away but us with little computer memory to spare skip it.

i found out that even though this thing offers real time scanning, it dosen't pick up much. after about 2 months trying this program out, i ran an online spyware program and it found critical objects that windows defender said wasn't there.

If I tell you I'm the king of Spain, with nothing to back it up, you won't believe me. Microsoft expects you to believe Windows Defender protects your PC, just because they say it does. Evidence to the contrary is easy enough to come by.
Windows Defender doesn't do anything.
Use Ad-Aware or Spybot. You'll see them remove all the spyware Defender ignored. Windows Defender is worse than using nothing, because it will give some users a false sense of security.

Windows Defender does absolutely nothing. It won't update its spyware definitions (a problem so common, there is a web link on the program's interface to the MS Knowledge Base article), and it just plain won't detect spyware.
I have run it on three different PCs for the last month. It has NEVER detected even a single piece of spyware. No one is that lucky. Using Ad-Aware and/or Spybot immediately after Windows Defender has done a scan routinely reveals anywhere from 12 - 25 instances of spyware, adware, and/or data-mining cookies.
Does Microsft actually think we aren't checking the results? This is the most useless piece of software I have ever used, and its predecessor, MS AntiSpyware was just as bad. After two such worthless beta releases (it's been in beta for well over two years), I don't have much confidence that the final release will be any better, when and if it ever arrives. I give Windows Defender a 1, only because zero isn't one of the choices.

"Cannot update"
I download this offical program and its works good but it kept on saying havent updated in so many days try to update keeps on getting error so i deleted and redown load it again. Has any one have the problem of updating it? HELP
