Avast does very well in AV comparatives tests. Sometimes it is among the very very best and sometimes only among the best. The same goes with other respectable anti-virus software. This apart from NOD32 which always seems to be among the very very best. AV Comparatives also informs on their website that the tests does not actually prove the best anti-virus software, they only try to prove some important aspects of a anti-virus software such as its ability to detect malware and how prone it is to false positives. Information that is very important. Other aspects such as how stable the program is and which features it is equipped with do they not take into account. Those aspects are very important too! Avast is equipped with a numerous number of shields and features and is, I think, because of this reason and also because of the reason that it does so well in different tests, the very very best anti-virus software.

Do not use Kaspersky, Norton, Nod 32, Bitdefender, AVG etc. use Avast and you will have a pc that is malware free and program which is reliable and just works. The program has a lot of features which many other lacks, features which are essential in the fight against malware. I have been in contact with the company behind Avast named Alwil and they have informed me that since version 4.8 Avast is equipped with heuristics. They are planning to announce this together with other new features related to heuristics in the third quarter of 2009.
Avast is a protective fortress with all its shields and will protect you against viruses, spyware, adware, rootkits and other malware. I have used Avast for nearly four years in different computers and it always work reliably and have kept them free from viruses.
Avast has a lot of cool skins to choose from. It is not a dull anti-virus program like the rest.
It is also free!
Note: Equipped with heuristic means that the program has a capability to catch unknown viruses.

Tried it out and really thought it worked good, however the interface needs to change. Since you can not expand it, long directory names block the name of the infected program. You have to send it to the chest to find out what file is infected. If the interface was better I would rate it a 5
