"The best of its kind..." by:cornel
Other Thoughts:The best of its kind...
And it's free ! I'm using it for a long time now and if fulfilled it's duty without any big bugs. Consider about it that it is free and there aren't hundreds of minds working behind it.

"Bug fixed" by:Henry
Other Thoughts:Version 5.4.3 had bug about finding Chinese text landing on irrelevant places. The new version 5.4.4 has this problem fixed. That's so good.
There are ANSI and UNICODE versions, and I am using the UNICODE version. You can simply ignore the ANSI version.

"fails to find double-byte characters" by:Henry
Other Thoughts:Finally, the portable version comes with one version: UNICODE. I opened an ANSI-encoded Big-5 Chinese text file, all text appear normal. However, when I tried to find a Chinese string, it lands on many irrelevant phrases.

"puzzled by two version" by:Henry
Other Thoughts:Notepad++ Portable 5.4.3 comes with two folder embedded in the downloaded zip file. One is ANSI, and the other is UNICODE. Both folders have Notepad++.exe but of different file sizes. On running each of them, there seem no difference and the default Encoding system is ANSI for both, and both them can allow saving files in ANSI or UNICODE. There is no documentaton showing why need for two different versions and what their differences are. Puzzled....
