It's great and powerful, but it does require the user to learn a lot before it can be used. If the person already knows how to program in batch they can use a program like SendKeys.NET which is also offered on this website. It calls keyboard commands from a batch file. Maybe not as strong as AutoIT, but it is a lot easier I think.
The only reason I still use this program is for the mouse clicks, but it is good to avoid those when building scripts anwyay, so I still try to accomplish as much as I can from the batch files and a little powershell.

AutoIt is a balanced scripting language that has enough depth for the adept and will hold your hand if you're a novice. Creating scripts with AutoIt is a pleasure and will consume clock time-seriously. Compile the scripts to .exe's and spread the joy to your friends. This download is genius!

AutoIt was designed to automate Windows processes (i.e. send keys, mouse movements, clicks, etc.) but it has evolved into greater, giving you the ability to do many things full-fledged programming languages can do, including creating your own application with a GUI.
