| "7,600,000 downloads?" If you check Softpedia.com they have over 7,600,000 downloads for Avira. A bit heavy on resources compared with Avast which I use for now.

| "Avira Antivirus" it's very good! Unfortunatelly because it has no emailscanner like AVG free edition it's not excellent, tough i would recomend this antivirus more then AVG, it won my vote for the best free antivirus.

| "brilliant" still using it and its the best freeware av program out there. everyone has their own security combination and personally i like to keep it simple with the best protection. to run a full security suite like norton is easy, but not wise. to have a jack of all trades, bloated security suite that interferes with everything you do and costs more than the moon is not the answer.. a quick one to "steve" !! do people still use windows defender???

| "go for it!" This is the best free virus protection you can get. Although it doesn't have an additional email guard and spyware protection like AVG, it still has the best detection rate of free av scanners. Just install it alongside with free Windows Defender and you have a good protection. Best way to protect you from email viruses is your own brain. Set email preferences to display emails in text and not html. Display as html should only be on demand, when you really want it for a single email. And never open email attachments from people you don't know. I delete any email from unknown people. This way, I never ever catched any email virus.

| "free in every aspect" gives a very good protection, has the best recognition rate of all free av, and it doesn't have any popups anymore as in the past, when it navigated your browser to their website offering you to buy the pro version.
pro version is not necessary for average user. but if you buy it, you get even better protection (email guard, etc.). and it's worth the money. never had a better av since i use avira.

| "best freeware av" i rate this the best av yet! its detection rate is brilliant and its simple to use. the ad that pops up is annoying but you cannot complain when its free and good. it does what it says on the tin! its a av program not a spyware program. its not intrusive or heavy on cpu usage. its scan is quick and powerful and found a few problems which avast missed. its updates are regular and no registration is required. i will use this as my primary av protection and give it my thumbs up big time...
