"Horrible Software"

WinMend Folder Hidden 1.4.4
Pros: None Cons: Stay away from this crappy software. It will install hidden folders on ALL your partitions, including USB drives, which I couldn't even delete out of a live PE environment. The folders on each drive have a bunch of sub-folders. You can't see the hidden folders unless you turn on hidden folder view in Windows, of course. Other Thoughts: To delete these hidden Winmend folders on each partition/drive root, use a free software called "Unlocker", and choose the delete option. Now, this will not delete the main/topmost folder, but only the deepest subfolder. So then go to the last/deepest folder, and delete the folders backwards from there, until you can delete the main folder. See how crazy this is? Winmend's registry cleaner software is equally bad, deleting hundreds of valid reg entries on my PC (Win7 x64)... "Uses 'Recycler' system folder"

Pros: None that I can see. Cons: I think what the previous reviewer 'bugman' was saying is that this program 'hides' your folders in the 'Recycler' system folder. It won't show up in the Recycle bin,but it's there. 'Free hide folder' uses the same method. This is not a safe location for your so called 'hidden' folders, as some disk cleaning utilities,depending on settings,will clear out this folder,then your files are gone. All these types of programs are the same basically, it is a trivial task to find the 'hidden' folder and the contents,so why bother in the first place? You are only hiding the folder from people with VERY,VERY limited PC knowledge and risking losing your data as well,brilliant!!! Other Thoughts: The only way to protect sensitive data that you don't want others to access is to encrypt it with a portable encryption program like DS Crypt or Blowfish Advanced CS and store it off your PC. Pros: It works, easy to use Cons: Wants to connect to their site Other Thoughts: I have no idea what previous poster is talking about
I created a test folder with a file, hid folder, confirmed.
Nothing was in recycling bin (I even ran Ccleaner and its registry cleanser AND restart pc).
Relaunched WinMend, selected "make visible", and sure enough, there it was , intact.

"Lose Your Files"

Pros: It works. Cons: Stores your important files in recycle bin (sure seems like a safe place to me) where they are easily deleted. Support is almost non-existent. "OK for non sensitive files"

Other Thoughts: Good for hiding folders from noobs. Just run a command console with: dir c: /s /b | find "file.ext" *use your applicable drive letter if not C:.

Other Thoughts: I had no problem installing and using this program. It is so awesome. Just try it and you'll see how easy it is. Hide and file and use the find folders feature in xp and it will not be found. I've verified that it is true!!!AWESOME!!! Very good program for free.
