Cons: it gave me a blue screen when I tried to install it and now I can't un-install it cause it gives me blue screen.

"Gud on Xp or W7"

PC Tools Firewall Plus 7.0
Pros: Esase to use
Nice interface
Good speed
Expert settings
Ram use 30-40 ( GUI + Service ) Cons: Width Xp and Avast its ok
But on W7 and Avast i get a BSOD every restart

"Best of the free ones"

In my opinion this is the best of the free firewalls. Very configurable. This firewall didn't slow my system down like other I have tried did. It tells you about traffic in detail if you want to know everything going on, or you can set it up to handle the most common issues on it's own. One of the best freebies on the net IMO. "Works on XP 2002"

Other Thoughts: First time I installed it, I did so with Spyware Doctor that comes with PC Tools. Spyware Doctor hung up my system so I uninstalled both programs. Reinstalled just PC Tools and every thing return to normal. It passed all the tests I ran on it, and it doesn't use the memory that Comodo does. I have not switched to PC Tools and am happy with it. "Potential crippled by bugs..."

Other Thoughts: (windows XP) At first it seems a good firewall with good features but problems start soon...
. windows startup install failed, had to start ALWAYS firewall manually.
. couldn´t deactivate process monitoring although I unchecked boxes everywhere...

"poor or excellent? depends"

i've installed 6.0.0.84 on both a laptop running under xp 2002 home edition service pack 2, celeron, and the second running xp 2002 media center edition service pack 2, amd turion. it runs without a hitch and installed smoothly. set to 'expert user' it provides much information and the ability to change parameters. would that my experience when attempting to install and run under vista home premium service pack one, intel core duo were as gratifying! it wasn't. once installed, the program failed to initialize. i fiddled and fiddled with it, but to no avail. and after i uninstalled it, i was unable to establish an internet connection at all and the firewall that i re-installed to replace pc tools came up showing a blank and inoperative program window. so, were i you, i would be chary, even though the program has had a minor change to a designation of 86, about attempting to put it on a vista os.

Other Thoughts: The older versions of this Firewall didn't score that highly,but these newer versions,as previous reviewer points out,do come out very highly rated in Matousec Firewall challenge. Other Thoughts: Version 6.0.0.81 of PC Tools Firewall Plus is a first rate firewall that has been recommended very highly by www.matousec.com It has colour coded warnings that are easy to understand. "Windows 2000 Pro"

I use Windows 2000 Professional. This firewall didn't work at all. In fact after I installed it "It told me I was protected" and all I needed to do was reboot, well, I rebooted and stuck around my computer to view the process of it loading. "The program give me an error and then left my computer helpless". I cannot recommend this program at all because of that. It's one thing for it to not work, but the simple fact that if I would not have stayed with my computer and trusted this program to begin with would have left my computer wide open to a "NON- FIREWALL ATTACK".
