This program is useful even over a wireless network and powerful in back-tracing. A Great tool for blocking programs you don't want communicating to your network. I use it on all my computers...Simply Great!

"Sygate"
I have used many firewalls but all have
fallen short in some respect. This one lets me block all traffic when I'm away from my computer, and its log files proves it. I have sat and watched my computer and have noticed no traffic in or out. I disabled the messages because it was anoying. I now have a quit safe running machine.

"Lets programs connect!"
I tried this and it lets certain programs connect without asking permission,Mailwasher for one. What else does it let connect without asking your permission I wonder?? I think this firewall is now so old it's nearly useless,things have moved on,and since it's not updated for a couple of years,it is now obsolete. I'll stay with Comodo 2.4 thanks!

iv been using it for almost a year and the only things that bother me is the popup notice when its block program's access. but once u set them, than the pain goes away.
other flaws:
1.sygate support is gone
Symantec bought them and then embedded spf to their own uti program (whoa.. that means spf is great ain't it?)
2.need more advance blocking option
3.plain interface
good things:
1.so far its runs smooth on XP
2.less memory usage (wont slow u down like ZA)
3.discreet (only bother u at first)
4.little bugs found
5.its a firewall :)
Compared with;
comodo: shoo.. go away! go away!
ZA: is this a firewall or a mistake?
norton: well these two are brother xcept this one cost u (boo)
Conclusion:
Among others firewall, spf is one of the greatest.

Sygate is no longer provided any support on, because the worst of all security companys "Symantec" bought them and took them off the market. But the firewall can still be downloaded and it is still one of the best free ones ot there !

"Poor - Not the App"
Poor - is for the LIE. SPF 5.5 is advertised when it is actually 5.6. As a windows 2000 user looking for 5.5 that makes me angry (CAN'T FIND 5.5 Freeware version ANYWHERE!!!!)

As of November 2005, all Sygate personal firewall software has been discontinued and is no longer supported by Sygate.

"Quality Product"
Thought it was about time to write the review after having been using this product since its release. Easy to install and operate, doesnt slow the system/internet too bad (most will while watching ports). Never had a problem software wise. Has a whois/trace function for attacks and overall easy to use and easy on the eye.

might be a good firewall. I'll never know. It slowed down my system to a crawl.....snailspeed.
