"very hostile"
by: Henry
Picasa 3.9

Cons: 1. Every time running Picasa, it asks me to search photos in MyDocu or in whole computer. There is no option to opt them all out. 2. Every time running Picasa, it asks me to associate what type of graphic files. 3. The above two questions are asked EVERY time. It does not memorize by preference. This is extremely annoying. 4. It uses non-standard terminology, e.g. in Editing, "Straighten" means to rotate by arbitrary angle. Too difficult to guess what it actually means. 5. Editing, brightness, contrast adjustments are by "Auto", where the user cannot do any manual fine-tuning.

Other Thoughts: None

"Rapacious ferret"
by: LAPTOPXPERT
Picasa 3.8

Pros: Don't know!

Cons: Rapacious ferreter of images

Other Thoughts: What if I don't want to let (or don't want to wait while) Picasa go through my computer to search for private stuff (Picasa claims it is images, but given Google's fetish for personal info, I'm not so sure). There is no request before beginning the search and nothing to switch off this bloodhound mode of Picasa. So I promptly killed it moments after the install, and unistalled it.

"Not much of an organizer!"
by: Kira
Picasa 3.8

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Not enough manual options/clunky interface

Other Thoughts: This program is simple enough to use, but the menus are just wonky.

They don't appear to be well thought out, & they certainly need to work on the contrast/brightness/gamma controls a bit.

While this may work for a novice, true professionals needing to edit a photo will find much lacking with this tool.

Additionally, the controls are in bad need of refinement in their placement in the program, as well as the way they are grouped! Some controls seem to be duplicious in function, & offer no added benefits!

Picasa 3.8

Pros:  Very Easy to use.

Cons: Takes a long time to load (but that may just be my computer)

Other Thoughts:  Picasa won me over after it found several images on my computer that I thought I had lost. It doesn't have as many options as some other programs but it is very easy to use and I think it makes a very good photo viewer. You can also use it to make slide shows without any difficulty.

"Needs Help"
by: Critique
Picasa 3.8

Pros:  I agree that Picasa needs some tweaks. The missing Contrast and Brightness adjusts are ridiculous. Also, when you load in a series of new photos, there's no easy way to take them out of the select list if you change your mind. The sharpen control does very little. This would be a good starting editor for someone new to digital photography. But don't let it be your ONLY editor. You'll need a lot more flexibility to do good work.

Cons: Inadequate color and shading adjustment. Difficult to do enough to fix bad photos. Difficult to understand User Interface

Other Thoughts: This program has been around long enough to be a LOT better. It needs a major rewrite to bring it into the 21sr century. It started weak, and it's still weak.

"Needs some tweaking!"
by: Photo editor

Other Thoughts: Someday Google will add the basic Contrast & Brightness controls to Picasa. As it is, there's no way to darken a too-bright image. Importing new files or directories is not intuitive at all. It is getting better, but still has a long ways to go.

"On a Positive Note"
by: ThisBoy

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have the latest version. No problems doing manual photo enhancements for me! Create videos, photo pages and what I enjoy best is updating the directories I pick. It will scan your entire computer for files if "you" say yes. This is the best product Google has ever offered and it is free.

Read the help files and watch the videos on using Picasa. It is really easy to use. Has dozens of features.

"The only thing worse..."
by: John

Other Thoughts: Than having this garbage, is having nothing at all!

- Picasa forces you to index all pictures on your drive, or my documents. No opting out!
- Picasa provides basic fixes, VERY basic, & automatic. Automatic will automatically get it wrong at least 50% of the time

I could go on, but I am tired!

"Great program to have!"
by: Picasa User

Other Thoughts: This is a very handy program to have. It collects all the images on your computer so that you have easy access to them from one place. The new image viewer is also very fun to use and you can create very nice slide shows and web albums. 5 stars!

"Barely acceptable"
by: John

Other Thoughts: The photo "editor" is terrible.

They need a manual adjust of the contrast, brightness, red/green/blue filter, saturation, & focus.

As it stands, the "auto" correct totally ruins many good pictures, so I have to give it a 2.

"Top Pick"
by: QHoT

Other Thoughts: Awesome for creating full feature movies from slides and video with sound.

If all you are doing is playing with a slide show it does a great job. There are other free software programs to play with the photo quality before production.

"Picassa is Goodly"
by: mulgabill

Other Thoughts: I have used Picassa since it came on the market as a paid acquisition. It is now better than when we had to pay money. My only quibble is the attachment of a tag to each edited pic..so that brings of pass mark of 99/100!

"Gotta Have"
by: ThisBoy

Other Thoughts: Why MS did not build this into the OS is beyond most of us. Google should be given great praise for this free add on.

The latest version comes with even more features to use. All in one organizer for almost every type of photo/video file in one place.

One feature I use all the time is the ability to update my Picasa albums. Great way to share with and meet kewl people around the Net.

If you give the software permission, it will update to the newest version, automatically. The developers are intelligent enough to know how to do it without you having to reboot.
