Pros:-very easy to use
-fast (instant preview for medium images)
-built-in support for additional PNG optimizers like pngout, optipng, a.o.
-high quality resampling algorithms
-best in my oppinion for reducing PNG: reduce colors visually + use powerful compression options
Cons:-transparency handling options are nice but PNG8 + alpha is not supported yet
Other Thoughts:I use it for two year and I am very happy. It helps me a lot in my daily activites

"Not really 'radical'..." by:Kurt RIOT 0.4.6
Pros:A few slight enhancements are possible
Cons:The announced 'radical' optimization is everything but radical. Using a simple filter to kill the noise of several pictures often makes them losing a lot of data... sadly this isn't mentioned in RIOT (as far as I know). Then RIOT tries to re-size every picture immediately... well, this method also is available in nearly every image processing tool.
Conclusion: For unchanged resolution RIOT isn't able to enhance a picture significantly. Mostly it's much better to simply use a tool like (for example!!! There are are others available!) Image Analyzer. With this tool one first should make a zoom to see if there is some noise in the picture. The next step would be the usage of a filter to reduce/kill this noise (at least in huge regions of the picture without contrast like blue sky, walls, colored areas like cars, furniture, ...). In general: 'Intelligent' noise filters often can reduce memory consumption with much less quality loss.
And don't forget: A real good made picture always consist of huge amounts of data. As long as there is a poor algorithm like JPEG is used, there WILL be a 'damage' to the picture's quality. This damage becomes higher with increasing compressing factor - RIOT can't change this as well.
Of course PNG is much better (lossless), but here it's the same: High contrast on huge parts of a picture make a picture consuming a lot of memory.
Other Thoughts:It would help a lot, if RIOT really consist of tools to reduce noise significantly - this WOULD decrease data consumption of pictures without significant loss.
Forthermore ... if you say RIOT enhances radically, then there should be at least a v.i.s.i.b.l.e difference in the results in comparison to a usual image processing tool.

"Great program" by:deebee RIOT 0.4.6
Pros:Does a really good job of shrinking the size of an image with no noticeable loss of quality. It is portable.
Cons:None
Other Thoughts:Does what it says and does it very well indeed.
