Inkscape 0.48.1-2
Pros: Good SVG editor. Cons: If you want to make block diagrams it may be better to use Dia. But I use both. Other Thoughts: We suffered Visio for many years until we found this one. "Good but......"

Pros: Does very good work creating SVG graphics. Has lots of filters. Cons: Some versions are unstable. Other Thoughts: Good program. But, I had 0.48.0-0 on my system and it crashed, without warning, or froze and never unfroze. (Had to hard reset my computer)
I hope this version is better than the previous one, but, if it's not, I may get an older version that I know works and forgo the current versions till they get the bugs worked out.Was this review helpful? 78 out of 213 users found this review helpful.

"great application"

Pros: Exceptional field of edit. I have done perspectives with vanishing points way out in "left field".
Very precise resolution. I have noticed no inconsistency at all in the Cartesian coordinates. I have done a highly decorate Easter egg, almost a Faberge style egg, on an intricate stand. "Awesome and free"

Other Thoughts: Really good alternative to Adobe Illustrator. Loaded with effects, and and filters. Also, it doesn't require a graphics tablet. Coming from Gimp, it took a little getting used to, but, the ability to precisely shape lines in an illustration is invaluable to making precise drawings, especially of machines. As to the person who was trying to run Inkscape on 64mb, give it up, Inkscape taxes my XP Pro with a 2ghz cpu and 1GB of ram. Try Pixa. It's fairly lightweight. It might work with your setup. This means out of memory or a cairo/fontconfig/FreeType bug
