"Kompozer" by: Evangelos
Other Thoughts: I used to use Nvu before I found Kompozer. It calls itself Nvu's unofficial bug-fix. It's the best one I've found for WYSIWYG editing. Beats Frontpage. It's at

Other Thoughts: Nvu does not come close to FrontPage, and there are enough bugs to drive you crazy. It has a lot of problems getting table cells right. As someone said before, it reformats the code in ways I don't like, and I wound up just writing a lot of the HTML myself. That said, it is still probably the best you can get for free. It is very useful to set up a general page layout and set a lot of the attributes that would take a lot of time to code by hand. Was this review helpful? 26 out of 54 users found this review helpful.

"Great freebie web editor" by: Taz
Other Thoughts: I actually dumped $400 Dreamweaver in favor of this freeware web editor. No, Nvu isn't as "powerful" as Dreamweaver, but it sure is a heck of a lot easier to use, and doesn't suck up all my PC's resources. The down side is tha Nvu sometimes reformats my code in ways I'm not crazy about, but considering all the positives, that's a relatively small sacrifice.
Nvu is the first valid freeware alternative to Dreamweaver and FrontPage to come along, and it's a good one.Was this review helpful? 33 out of 66 users found this review helpful.

"Best yet" by: IanL
Other Thoughts: I've used Nvu through several incarnations. This is the best yet. It doesn't quite rival Dreamweaver, but at £0 against £300+ that's being petty. If it offered split screen HTML and wysiwyg that would make it very special, but thanks to those open source people who make it availableWas this review helpful? 27 out of 63 users found this review helpful.
