"Retroshare 0.5.1b"
by: GIGOmat
Retroshare 0.5.1b

Cons: Doesn't work.... Have used previous versions with disappointing (20KB/s) transfer rates running Retroshare at both ends of 5GB/s Cable connections. Suggest TeamViewer for much better results.

Other Thoughts: None

"share with your friends"
by: Freelover

Other Thoughts: This is great for sharing with your friends through a so-called F2F (friends-to-friends) network. It is not dependant on a server and users stay protected within their friends network. Important is that you only add friends you really know. Then you can share anything without any risk. This is called 'turtle hopping'. Shares only take place from friend to friend to friend, etc...

I also highly recommend to use OFF (Owner-Free File System), which is a client comparable to eMule, but with no risk of being sued for copyright issues. The concept is based on nodes that transmit a mixture of randomized, encrypted blocks which are 'dispersed' within the network, that is to say distributed on the harddisk space that is provided by the clients. IPs are visible, but it is impossible to tell who is owner or transmitter of which data. Therefore there is no basis for a law suit. Downloads speeds are comparable to torrent. OFF has the potential to be a replacement for emule, torrent, gnutella and limewire. It's the future, because users are fed up with being controlled. Free speech and exchange is what they demand.

Don't be put off that it's not as convenient as eMule or Limewire. It's still in development. Find out a bit more about how files are being shared ('dispersed'). The benefit is worth it. Only drawback is you should be ready to share at least 4 GB of your disk space.
