"POOOR!" by: Julie Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 for XP
Pros: - Updated IE Version Cons: - Crashes
- Active X drive by hole is still open! Other Thoughts: How do you let such a worthless browser loose? Active X practically guarantees you will be compromised!
Look up drive by downloads & active X...
Try a better browser like Chrome, Opera, or Firefox! Was this review helpful? 47 out of 94 users found this review helpful.

Pros: If you like Trident Engine ,I suggest use the Avant browser. The download is relatively small, the interface is extremely stable, mouse gestures and dockable tabs. Pop-up and ad blocking are excellent. The ability to block ActiveX, images, Java, and more "on the fly" is superb.

"getting better" by: stuart
Other Thoughts: i am not an explorer fan but this version is slowly getting better!
version 7 was a complete joke and is what made me so anti explorer but 8 is much better.
i was running firefox until the last few updates and found to my suprise that ie8 is quicker and more stable.
if you take the time to set ie8 up correctly its actually not a bad browser with regard to security, speed and stability but it looks awful with its battleship grey interface thats long overdue an overhaul.
i also find it awkward to use compared to other browsers like firefox and opera which are much more user friendly.
my main gripe with ie8 is power as it eats up ram especially compared to opera.
although its getting better its still not the best and i will only use it for my auto updates as opera at the moment is in a different class to all available browsers. Was this review helpful? 84 out of 174 users found this review helpful.

"Not bad, but slows PC down." by: Sorcerer
Other Thoughts: IE 8 seems very stable and is overall pretty good. My only complaint is that it runs slower than IE 7 on my computer. I have a 1.8GHZ Pentium 4 so on a faster computer you probably wouldn't notice the slow down. The slow down seems to be overall and not just the web browser. Even when I'm not using the browser the computer still seems to be running slower. Was this review helpful? 78 out of 165 users found this review helpful.

"The pain is insane!" by: Power Grabber
Other Thoughts: + Looks pretty... 5 points
+ Is free...
- 6 isn't as pretty... At least it works!
- Crashes over & over again loading tabs, is a pretty huge download, refuses to load certain flash sites.
Overall, I give it a 5 for being pretty, & a 0 for functionality since it doesn't do anything sometimes but just sit there "recovering" from a crashed tab where it refuses to open a flash website that Firefox opened fine, and version 6 of IE did as well.
Now, I use Browzar because they work, & they are tiny & free anytime I need something based on IE.
I am appalled... Some sites load & show the placeholder for a vid, but stop at that. Showing where it should be.
This is a JOKE!
Appearance = 5, but after giving it a bell curve based on being usable, I have to give it a 2 when I factor in that functionality is 0.
At least it looks good! Was this review helpful? 61 out of 148 users found this review helpful.

Other Thoughts: What is wrong with you people. First of all it's ONLY a beta release so you should know better then to download it. Second, it's from microsoft LOL!
I NEVER had a problem with using firefox and most likely NEVER will. - Wake up people for the love of God.Was this review helpful? 73 out of 159 users found this review helpful.

"Pretty good, But Not Yet." by: Anonymous Smith
Other Thoughts: I suspicious of the negative reviews, confirmed somewhat by many mentioning a preference for other browsers. For those, asking who still uses IE, the answer is me and most computer users worldwide.
Anyway, I've used IE 8 RC1 XP heavily for five days now on a backup/test computer and it's only crashed once. And that one time was a website which often crashed IE 7, and apparently most other browsers judging from the complaints. Further, IE 8 RC1 not slow on a modern PC, with web pages loading almost instantly and downloads handled about as quickly as they can be served. I haven't noticed any specific bugs impacting usage. Menus and buttons work and web pages appear normal.
But, since this is a beta RC, I'd still not recommend installation on a primary computer yet. Wait for the final release version, which will give them time to fix any remaining issues. Was this review helpful? 75 out of 158 users found this review helpful.
