We re-tested Vista Codec Package with Avast and it installed successfully.
Below is a screenshot of the installation process with the Avast icon clearly visible in the system tray:

i also got the "COM surrogate" error each time i acess a folder with a audio/video file on it..
what i did was to uninstall other installed codecs in my computer including vista codec package,
then reinstall VCP again.
after reinstallation, everything works fine again..

I have "COM surrogate" error with Media Player Codec Pack 3.3.x within the windows explorer when accessing avi file.
But this one have no problem so far. It even generate preview icon for the mp4 file.

I wanted this application because of the following reasons; real media files and lack of space for a dozen unnecessary media players. I must say that it has worked beautifuly in my vista system and i recommend to anyone looking for a small and complete solution for a majority of media formats out there.

Version 4.3.5 already out, great works outstanding. Really needed this to play my divx movies. Fast updates... I would suggest visit authors website for latest version.
