"Excellent streaming video" by: rwllms Other Thoughts: The Divx web player makes it very easy to imbed streaming video into my site. I am very impressed with quality of the streaming video. The web player adapts how much it will buffer before it starts playing depending on how fast your internet connection is making it much less likely to pause wile playing. I have not found this program to be spyware, the EULA file does say that when you install the web player it will connect back and log the installation status but states “No personal information will be communicated to DivX, Inc. or its affiliates”. Also the program will perform version checking but again states “. No personal information will be communicated” The web player does show adverts after the video has played, at the moment this is just for the Divx codec although it could be used for other things. But if you read the Divx Web Player Webmaster SDK file from Divx it tells you the code to embed into your site to turn off the adverts! This is the link please look at section “IV Advanced configuration, The bannerEnabled parameter” http://download.divx.com/player/DivXWebPlayer_WebmasterSDK.zip One major downside is that not many sites are using it yet and web users may be reactant to install a plug-in when there are so few sites that use it. I believe that this will change soon as Divx recorded 1,000,000 downloads of the web player in the first week or its release . Overall I think this is an excellent program that brings high quality streaming video to the internet. In an easy to understand package.
