Exact Audio Copy v1.0 beta 3
Pros: Makes bit-perfect copies of audio CDs provided that the CD is not too badly scratched.
If perfect copies are not possible (the disk is damaged) then errors will be reported so that you know it is not a perfect copy. Cons: Can be extremely slow with scratched CDs.
Other Thoughts: As long as the CD is in reasonable condition the copies will be perfect.

"Understand the quality"

Other Thoughts: I used to use this program in the very early days. That was before the Frauenhoffer issues that withdrew this software from the net. It was free and very accurate but very slow. This was partly hardware in those days. I used it again today for the first time as I had a track that I just couldn't copy without errors. The CD played ok but wouldn't copy the last track without stutters. This program set to the fussiest setting copied it and stated two errors and named the times of occurrence. I cannot detect the errors. (I don't think I have any hearing problems!). I believe you need to keep a copy of this program handy. If you just want quality on a good source.... just use it. Try to beat it if you can in this respect. Speed is not an issue unless you want to rip all your collection. "EAC 0.99pb4"

Other Thoughts: When you use "secure mode" with EAC, the ripping is slow, but EAC handles also very scratched CDs. You can switch to "burst" mode, if you want to have fast ripping. And it is very easy to configure EAC with its build in wizard. Even in pre-beta stage, I haven´t encountered any bugs or usability difficulties. Other Thoughts: Years later, still not at 1.0 and still in beta. I rate low because this thing hides behind the "pre-1.0" and "beta" tags to excuse its bugs, AND because it is needlessly difficult to configure.
