Based on a professional review (ZD or C|Net or some such, I forget), I tried this one & it's the only one that really works without sucking more memory than it saves, because it works entirely differently.

This one optimizes RAM without pushing data to the swap file or any lag! More memory and performance for free. I recommend that you put an icon to CleanMem.exe on your quicklaunch and run it manually too. Essential for PCs with less than 1 GB of RAM and good for all others. The best of the best, from another league!

I Tried This Program Out For A Few Days On Vista Home Basic.I Also Found That It Made No Difference In My Computer's Performance.Guess Some People Might Find A Difference But I Did Not.To Each Their Own I Guess.

Of all the RAM optimizers available, CleanMem is the best hands down. Unobtrusive, relaible, and stable, not what you get with other optimizers like Fast Defrag. CleanMem cleans the memory out of all processes that it can without forcibly cleaning the memory out of processes that still need it, unlike many other programs. It does NOT clean by maxing out your RAM, which causes major lag of your system, and it is used simply by installing and forgetting about it. It runs every 30 minutes via the Windows Task Scheduler, and it operates so quickly that windows thinks that it CleanMem is crashing, therefore any errors that are found are nothing to be concerned about. By far the easiest to use, runs along side of resource heavy 3D games, and I have yet to experience a lag on this laptop while CleanMem is running (Dual Core 2 GHz, 2 GB RAM.) Works flawlessly with Vista and XP, this is a must have.

I installed this software and, surprise, do his job very very well. No backgrounds process, no freezing. Install and forget because you know is doing his job perfectly and smoothly. A must have.
