The current prevalence of ransomware is worrying, with criminals locking people's computers until they make payments. Thankfully, AVG Virus Labs has taken the issue seriously and has been closely studying the various strains of ransomware to determine how to exploit their weaknesses. They have developed several tools to combat them, such as AVG Decryption Tool for BadBlock.

Using AVG Decryption Tool for BadBlock

There were 32-bit and 64-bit versions of AVG Decryption Tool for BadBlock, and we downloaded the one that matched our system.

The software started the decryption process as soon as we double-clicked the downloaded file. We did not need to install it. After passing the welcome screen, it required us to provide an example of encrypted file and a file in its original version. We could either type the file names or drop them at the relevant positions. Both the encrypted and original files had to match.

Once we had provided the files, the software started brute-forcing the decryption process.

Conclusion

Whether you have already suffered the effects of BadBlock or not, it is good to be prepared to deal with the ransomware. AVG Decryption Tool for BadBlock is a handy tool for recovering your hijacked files without paying any ransom. Please note that the decryption process may take a considerably long time depending on the affected files.
