Being a data scientist or analyst is an in-demand occupation. And there are plenty of folks interested in dipping their feet in the data science domain but don't understand coding all that well.

However, you don't have to be a master in coding to become a data analyst or anything related to it. There are free software programs you can use to work your way around the tough parts of data management, transformation, and editing.

DSTK is a data science program perfect for those who prefer an Excel-like interface. Now even those with minimal knowledge of algorithms can simply build predictive models.

What is DSTK

Data Science Took Kit or DSTK, is a free program or software that is designed to be used for statistical analysis, data visualization, predictive analysis and text analysis.

Developers of DSTK Tech of SVBook aim to create useful data science tools for academic and business practitioners. The idea is to achieve conclusions faster in order to properly use deeper tools like SPSS Statistics.

DTSK, in particular, was designed for users who also use SPSS and Excel-like interfaces.

How DSTK Works

The free software is a broad solution workbench. Simply specify the software path to use DSTK for data editing or transformation, prediction modeling, and python IDE. JASP could be specified for advanced data modeling, while RapidMiner can be specified for advanced prediction modeling.

Written in C#, DSTK can be expanded with plugins using R Scripts. The developers have already created plugins for more statistical functions.

Features of DSTK

As mentioned previously, DTSK has the following features we can categorize into statistical analysis, data visualization, predictive analytics and text analytics.

Statistical features involve:

  • Descriptive - mean, median, variance, standard deviations and so on,
  • Inferential - ANOVA, T-Test, Wilcoxon and so on,
  • Regression - linear and so on,
  • Interface with R, GNumeric and Python and so on. Data Visualization involves:
  • Histogram
  • Scatter Plots
  • Box Plots and more Predictive Analytics involve:
  • REPTree
  • MLP
  • Plus more with WEKA algorithms Text Analytics and Text Mining feature involve:
  • Text Processing
  • POS Tagging
  • Name Entity
  • Word Net
  • Sentiment Analysis
  • Text Classification
  • Plus more with gazetteers from GATE

Final Thoughts on DataScience ToolKit

DSTK has licenses from R, RStudio, NLTK, SciPy, SKLearn, MatPlotLib, Weka each.

The provision for plugins allows the software to be customized according to what the user needs. We can also expect more powerful data analysis from DTSK thanks to it. The plugins expand features with R Scripts, Big Data Analysis using Microsoft Azure. These make DataScience ToolKit indeed, a very useful data science tool.
