Markdown Edit is a full-featured editor for CommonMark documents, which focuses on keyboard shortcuts for ease of use. You can access most program functions via keyboard shortcuts, and the program does not feature elements like a main menu, tabbed windows and status bar. In addition to editing Markdown files, the software is also compatible with text and HTML documents.

Using Markdown Edit

The software featured a modern user interface and feel, which added to its user friendliness. It used the standard CommonMark engine and many features. For example, we could simply use the drag and drop feature to convert DOCX files and quickly open recent files.

The Markdown editor is not just for basic editing; we used it to make our documents more aesthetically appealing, thanks to the document formatting feature. The editor highlighted syntax and the current line for better visibility. It highlighted content using different colors in the Abstract Syntax Tree representation style.

We used keyboard shortcuts for many functions, including inserting block quotes, headers, italic, bold and lists. Other things that we could set included themes, colors and fonts. We changed themes quite fast. The editor let us see the changes that we made in real time. It also automatically checked spelling as we typed and gave us possible alternatives to unknown words.

When we dragged and dropped a picture into the program's user interface, it displayed a menu from where we chose whether we wanted to insert its path into our code or upload it to Imgur.

The word count feature was especially handy considering that some of the documents that we created required a specific range of words. The program also saved our documents automatically at regular intervals. Other features that made our work easier were key bindings and custom snippets.

We configured our preferences and stored them in a text file, which allowed us to share them easily. The editor settings allowed us to configure such things as word wrap, auto save, line numbers, remembering cursor position, highlighting current line and synchronizing scroll positions. We could choose whether we wanted the program to show spaces, tabs, line endings and vertical scroll bar. We could also configure spell checking and advanced settings.

Conclusion

Markdown Edit is a powerful Windows editor for the CommonMark specification with a stylish interface that is devoid of many bells and whistles. You access many program functions via keyboard shortcuts. The live preview function allows you to immediately see how your documents will appear.
