Free office suite with document, presentation, and spreadsheet modules.

ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors software is a free Microsoft Office alternative comprised of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications. Additionally, it provides access to team collaboration activity via a cloud platform selectable from a number of cloud options.

Entirely compatible with both Office and OpenOffice formats, the free word processor has the capacity to open and save documents in the formats required when files are being shared. Joint projects can be easily expedited, while multiple documents can be managed simultaneously. A third-party plugin collection provides such additions as extensions for adding YouTube videos, ClipArt objects, translation and symbols, and much more.

Word processor alternative together with spreadsheet and presentation editors

The Document Editor module of ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors enables you to view and edit documents saved in formats including PDF, HTML, EPUB, XPS, in addition to Office and OpenOffice files. Excel, CSV, and Open Document spreadsheet and presentation formats can be opened in, respectively, the Spreadsheet Editor and the Presentation Editor, both of which can open PDF and PDF/A files.

Downloaded to any 32- or 64-bit Windows OS (there are even XP and Vista versions), ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors installs with the help of a wizard to guide you through the process. The wizard allows you to run the editors once the installation is completed. Alternatively, they can be launched from the Start menu.

Documents being worked on are tabbed at the top of the clean and comprehensive user interface of the Microsoft Office alternative, along with the new document Save tab. Color-coded buttons for the three editors are located in the Create New section of a panel at left. This also includes tabs to display recent files, open local files, your Cloud connection, and Settings. New files open in a new tab at the top. Multiple tabs can be clicked so that documents can be worked on in the same window, or they can be drag and dropped in separate windows.

Document Editor

Save, Print, and Undo and redo buttons are located above the menu bar and below the open document tabs. The menu bar has File, Home, Insert, and Layout, References, Collaboration, Protection, and Plugins tabs, and at right a File Location button and a View Settings button.

All the tools normally associated with word processing occupy a toolbar with Copy and Copy and Paste icons at left, Search, Comments, and Navigation icons are located in a left-hand sidebar, and there is a Status bar at the bottom of the window. A panel at the right displays tools to edit the parameters of any element selected within the open document. Rulers are at the top and left of the window and a scroll bar at the right. The View Settings enable you to hide/show any of these components.

Spreadsheet Editor

Displaying a similar tabbed interface, the Spreadsheet Editor's menu bar includes Formula for accessing Autosum formulas, etc., Data for sorting data, Pivot Table, and View instead of the References of the Document Editor. A formula bar beneath the toolbar displays the formula for any selected cell, and the Status bar has sheet tabs, sheet navigation, and zoom buttons.

Presentation Editor

The menu bar of the Presentation Editor, beneath the same top row of tabs for open documents, provides File, Home, and Insert, Collaboration, Protection, and Plugins tabs, while the Status bar at the bottom provides quick access to some navigation tools and notifications. Otherwise, the interface is set up in much the same way as the other two editors.

Open source ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors is a Microsoft Office alternative consisting of a word processor plus spreadsheet and presentation editors to provide all the formatting and editing functions expected in a free office suite. It, additionally, enables access to collaboration features including real-time reviewing and editing making it a valuable resource for small businesses and other instances where such functions are required.
